Club Sadowsky!!!

Just a thought, why are there always so many Sadowskys in the classifieds and hardly ever any Alleva Coppolos?

As I'm sure you've witnessed here, the Sadowsky folk have a somewhat reverent passion for their tool of choice & having experienced a taste there seems to be an overwhelming urge to INDULGE in the variety of cuisine available. SO - off to the trading block in many cases. ;)

I think a lot of that has to do with how you are listening to a Sadowsky. A lot of that "harsh" aggressive tone that you hear when the bass is soloed just disappears in the mix. While I think it has a lot to do with what gives the bass its presence in the mix, it really gets "rounded off" with the rest of the instruments going.

I really noticed this in the last couple of recording sessions I did with that MV5-24. I ended up with a straight DI send to the board. The tone in the monitor was edgy, bright and VERY aggressive, but on the playbacks, it sounded much more like what you describe as Lizzy's tone. The HF in everything else covers that aggression.

That is my experience as well. Soloed it can sound pretty grindy, also I like my action low so there's almost always a little fret buzz happening, but it all disappears in the mix. The Sansamp is set for a little overdrive too, this also disappears.

I don't have the VTC either. Pickup pan is centered, bass and treble are very slightly boosted. My strings are D'Addario XL (nickel) and were mostly fresh at the time.

Actually, it's probably more like almost 6000, and that's just NYC's. Add in the Tokyo's and especially the Metros, and the number is even much larger. :)

Bottom line is, I think you're right, you just WAY undershot the difference. MASSIVE difference in installed base/market presence. MASSIVE. :)

I know Vic.....My first one was 3144, they're into the 5000's last I checked. Don't know if they broke the 6000 ser # yet.

Come next week, I can take both a J5, and a P5 to work, and have them both be Sadowsky.
Ehhhhhhh-xcellent.

I'm aspiring to the same setup. I'm desperately looking for a used MV5 to compliment my PJ5 alder/braz rw with flatwounds. Add in my Modulus Quantum fretless (34" scale AND 19mm spacing) and I'll officially be "King S*** of F*** Mountain"!!!!

:hyper:

Actually that'll be you and many others, but I could at least be a Duke of some sort.

M5006 showed up. Did a quick and dirty check out (am in the middle of moving so it is a little nuts. The Moderns certainly do sound "modern". It is funny, playing it back to back with my Fender AmDlxP showed a huge sonic difference. The PJ has Dunlop nickels that have a few gigs on them so that is part of it.

Weight is nice, balance is great. Neck is great and the 18mm string spacing (an upcharge on the Metro but 19mm on a 5-string just isn't comfortable to me) is about perfect - pretty much identical to my Deep 5. Have to get it into a gig as I don't like to judge the bass sound alone. It doesn't sound like a JJ though and that's good as I'm not a JJ kinda guy.

Pics to follow...as soon as I figure out where I packed my camera :p

Personally, I'd say it was MASSIVE. Just MASSIVE. ;) :D

:hiding:

True dat. A massive missive from the modern.
