Club Sadowsky!!!

I believe the more vintage 9" radius is a direct influence by an upright board. As time went by the electric bass took its own path and became more modern in many ways. The flattened radius, 12" and above, after you get use to it, is much faster, more even and generally closer to a guitar board. You have more room to bent strings for instance. Tapping and al these nonsense are also easier...
If you're used to 9" I'd suggest you try a 12" before changing your order.

I was just watching the Matchbox 20 "live from abbey road". Great band! Impressive stuff, really good music.

And the bass player uses Sadowsky. :) (and stingrays as well). Got curious, "googled it" and found this:

Brian when it comes to bass guitars, what are you using now?

Brian: I still use Stingrays as well as Sadowskys, which are hand made guitars by Roger Sadowsky who is a custom shop builder in New York City. It is an incredible instrument. I got my first Sadowsky on the second record, Mad Season, and I’ve kind of have been splitting time between those guitars and the Stingrays. It all depends on the body of the song though. If it is more of a mid-range song I’ll go for the Stingray and if it is more of a full range Fender-esque sound, I’ll use the Sadowsky. I also use a lot of drop D tunings and use five strings basses as well.

That drives me to the idea that I would like to become a member of Sadowsky club! I had a new RV5 Metro some time ago and it was dull and not so good bass. So I thought people must be victims of advertisements and sold it. But then I got a used MV5 and shortly after that a UV70 RW5 which both are just superb basses. It went out that my former bass was just an exception.
So, I would like to share my respect for great instruments and Roger's customer service as a proud member of Sadowsky club. Please count me in!

It's funny how we all have different tastes. (which is a good thing)

My first Sadowsky was a MV5. I sold it soon after I got it. It played and was built awesome, but the sound to me was terrible. Then I went out on a limb and got a RV5. Tonal heaven for me. :hyper:

Well, I think it wasn't the wood combo but the wood of that particular bass. It was really dull. No resonance I was expecting. Now I also have a Rosewood neck on my UV70 and I like the sound and feeling very much.
The same goes to Fenders. You can find bad ones and great ones within the same production year.

Indeed... tastes do vary a lot! I prefer maple FBs mainly for aesthetics, but I've gotten use to the difference between it and RW. To me, I can EQ maple down to sound kind of like rosewood, but I can't really EQ rosewood up to be like maple.

But it's all personal preference :).

It's my "old" Metro RV5. I really regret letting this one go. It's an awesome sounding bass. If you listen to "Grandma's Revenge" on my Myspace page, that's this bass.

Of course I wouldn't trade my current NYC for it, but I am getting very nostalgic for the single coils. Hmmmm. Methinks a trip to the shop is in my immediate future. :bassist:
