It sounds big, but doesn't feel that way. The gauges on that set are .136 .102 .076 .057 .041.

He has B strings for drop tuning that get to .254. I can't imagine what that is like.

But I can't wait to hear them on the RV5!

Again, I don't get a penny for doing this, but I'd be very interested to hear what you thought if you'd try a set. I'm looking for some validation here.

BTW, he gave me permission to pass on the pricing discounts he's giving me (and anybody else who's had him build a bass for them), and said he'd do it for any TB member as well. The retail is $40, the one-up discounted price is $27, and if you get 6 or more sets, it's $22/ea (plus whatever shipping might be).

I'm really a Blue SS fan as well; they've sounded nice on everything I've put them on.
I liked the Dunlop SS on one of my Sad's, but, not the other...hmmmm....

I'm always looking for the enxt New Best String, and I've tried dang near everything, and have a fairly narrow field of what I like anymore.
I haven't tried the Skjolds, but I reckon I will have to, now.

Sadowsky steels are great... blue or black label. I usually have a set of those on at least one bass.



FWIW I also like LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels, Rotosound steels, DR steel Lo Riders, Ken Smith tapercore steels, and Elixir Nanowebs (which don't specify but look like nickel). I use the Nanowebs in summertime because the coating prevents me from killing 'em quickly with sweat, no matter how hot and humid the conditions are.

Ok, I have to post this up...

For a while now, I've had a set of strings on my plain jane MV5 for a while now and two things stood out about these strings. One is, they really lasted a long time, and two, the B string had a particularly great focus, and also maintained it's "roundwound ring" longer than most other strings I've tried. It's tapered, but slightly differently than other tapers I've seen including strings like DR Longnecks, MTD's and even Sadowsky strings. These strings have done so well I've literally been afraid to pull them off for fear of losing tone. So far it's just the one set, but they're REALLY great strings IMHO unless I somehow just got a freak set on (tho I doubt it).

So what are they? Skjold stainless steel. I strongly urge folks to get a set of these strings on their Sadowsky basses and give them a try. If they perform like this set has for me, prepare to be very impressed. I only have one more set, but will be buying more just on the assumption they all work this well. If anyone else is so inclined... to get at least one set and try them out, I'd really love to hear their opinions of them.

Disclaimer: NO, I'm not at all affiliated with Pete and his strings. He's a friend, but that's as far as it goes. If you buy a set, I don't get one red cent for sending you his way. This is just me passin' on honest experiences... nothing more.

I would like to try Sadowsky strings but I'm not a fan of the 105 E (which feels too fat and thuddy) or of the 40 G (too thin and tinny). I usually use Hi Beams which come in a 45-100 set, so trying to find new strings to try out for a change is always a challenge.

Vic - I needed some strings... I have used DR and D'Addario and was looking to try something different. Plus they are going on your old MV5-24, which should sound awesome !!!

Interesting. I plan on putting a set on my NYC MV5/24 as well... as soon as the Blues currently on it wear out.

I use Slinkys on my p bass and Rotosound 66s on my Lakland. Anyone have experience with either of these on their Sadowsky?
