Thanks everyone for all the feedback on the strings (and thanks to P. Bass for the cool overdubs tone references!). I think I'll pick up a set of the Sadowsky flats and give them a shot. I've played Chromes for 4-5 years and am just looking to maybe try something different.
I'd be lying if I said that the concept of a tapered flatwound B string didn't intrigue the heck out me....
First rehearsal tonight with the RV5 PJ, so I'm looking forward to hearing it at band volume.

No Sadowsky news for me, other than I've played the neck on my MV5 shiny, and had to get out a scotchbright and knock the sheen of it.

I'm curious, does anyone know if the roasted maple necks are supposed to change the sound of the bass much?
I read up on 'em when Music Man was first doing them. Apparently, there's a stability benefit, but I don't remember reading anything about the sound aside from a suposedly improved resonance. I don't like the look, and I'm unsold on the sound part of the theory, myself. As with all things, I may be totally off base, but you know...
EDIT: Found the link to the Ernie Ball info. Apparently there's some sonic benefit, but I still feel my snake-oil sensors going off:

Well, it's about time, then! You can do this...channel your fears and make them work for you, not against you. Once you get up on stage you'll feel the excitement of the music take over and the fear will turn into pure joy.

My first gig was nerve-wracking, but i was an 18-year-old snot who didn't know a minor chord from a hole in the ground. you'll do better than that.
Also, I little touch of nerves is a good thing. The day you step onstage and don't get a little zing of nerves is the day you no longer care. That's when it's time to hang up tour hat, because the next step is the diminishing enjoyment.
I'll think about it. Turns out it is not as intimidating as I thought. It will be at a house and the guest size is 30-40 ppl.

My guitarist's niece works for Quicksilver and she's having this small shindig at her house. We just finished our first cd and it's getting around...the reason why they want us to play live.
