Speaking of "show me", I don't think I've posted this before.
I have a real passion for the unusual in wood & patterns in grain etc. Roger blessed me with 2 - count 'em - 2 of those features on my build. The Mad' 2-tone FB, of course, & this little gem on the back. It's a "flaw", or what I call "beauty mark" in the ash. I actually requested a snooker cue maker to incorporate one of these in the butt of a cue I had made many years ago. Most, I suspect, would pay to avoid this stuff. ;) Go figure.

So, a couple years ago I removed much of the nitro with 300 grit sandpaper. Just thought I'd post a comparison pic with my October 2010 Sadowsky MM5. The difference is more dramatic in person, but you get the idea:

I realize some folks don't like the look of grungy maple, but it doesn't bother me at all, and far more important to me is the feel. I completely agree with Roger:

I'm sorta tempted to sand my 2010 Sadowskys, but they're not super glossy yet (I rotate all three Sadowskys), so for now I'll let nature run its course.

P.S. The finish on Blackie was coming off naturally. Here's a pic of the treble side of the neck a couple years before sanding. The wear might be from my wedding ring... or maybe not: that bass got a LOT of playing time.

That last pic looks like it was taken of my main bass - a WL with a Birdseye FB. I have a platinum wedding ring that I refuse to remove and thus have a very similar wear pattern to yours.

I'm not bothered by it. I bought it to play it, and I'm doing quite a bit of that.
