Yessir, I note the different position.
If the mounting hole spacing is the same, maybe it could still be a direct replacement?
Maybe not too: this is why I ask...

It looks like it sits all the way down on the wood too; the ones on my two Sadowskys (is that the correct plural?) do not...

Exactly. I've seen trees like this before and I'm betting the optimal break angle at the nut means it has to be mounted farther out than the bar we have on ours because it brings the strings down so much lower.

Slap some single coils in this bad boy and you pretty much have exactly what I have in my beloved 4098:

This one just looks stunning to me, AND it has that nice narrower nut. :)

Looking for opinions on a Modern, better if you are or have been an owner.

I would like something that can have more of an aggressive tone. Compare that against a jazz tone I guess.

1) Check YouTube, it's easy to find videos of the Sadowsky Modern. In particular, look for the Sadowsky YouTube channel. (I'm at work or I'd post links myself...)

2) I'm not an owner, but I've heard quite a few Moderns. IMHO they are especially growly and aggressive, in large part because the pickups are closer to the bridge than those on a J-bass.

Roger can this be put on my VINAGE 5? i will be there Dec 19 to pick it up. Are these the same retainers NINO is using? I have (2) 4 strings from him and they have this type of retainer, not sure if its quick release though. Thanks in advance and i will see you and the crew in a few weeks.

I have no idea what Nino is using. This is being custom made for me at Hipshot and it is a narrower design than their stock retainer.

My 24 fret modern is VERY aggressive.. Got it in 1993 or 94.. dont remember exactly..
Its aggressive in a Good way... It originally had EMGs but i found they were noisy in some situations. .Roger later sent me a set of his Dual Coils (that i think he still uses) and that fixed the noise issue.. And makes that bass sing.. It is in your face type of sound.... yet can still lay down a big fat bottom too... It is more HiFi sounding to me than a J style... again in a good way...with a more open top end and punch in the low mids that is not only good for jazz stuff but does great for Rock too... I would buy another on in a minute.. In fact that is what i want to get but this time a Metro swamp ash/ Maple and as light as i can get it..
Killer bass!
