Club Sadowsky!!!

Since a fair number of my gigs don't pay, I get to play anywhere I damn well please :D

So maybe it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Which came first, the 24th fret wheedling or the lack of pay?
In my case, it was the hook coming from off stage making the rest moot. ;) :D :D :D :D

Heres a pic of my 2 Sadowskys #5776 and #5391...
I just got #5391 about 6 weeks ago and sent the neck off to Pat Wilkens to paint the headstock to match the body and do his version of the thin-matte finish on the back of the neck.. It's a great bass (Thanx Bob)..
#5776 I bought new and actually played last April and didn't buy it till about July.. I always kept thinking about it and sold everything else once I got it..

Got a close-up of that headstock? At least in this picture, it looks like it coulda' been that way from the factory, and I like it!

Vic.. Are you talking about the finish or does it look cut off to you ?? It's just the angle and background.. It's the stage, we were at the Niagara Falls Casino last night...
I was referring to the finish that you commented on (where the black bass originally didn't have the matching headstock, but you changed that via Pat). But then I think I realized you had it done by the same guy that does it for Roger, making my comment kinda' silly. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time. :D Bottom line is, I agree it looks better that way. :)

I know whatcha mean...

In fact, there's a big brown truck that'll be leaving something for me tomorrow that's koa, mahogany and ebony flavored :hyper:

...and here's what that brown truck dropped off:

#4358 - Sadowsky 25th Anniversary 24F5 (12 of 25)
FINISH | Natural
BODY | AAAA Flamed Koa on Mahogany
NECK | Maple with Thin Matte Nitro Finish
FINGERBOARD | Ebony, 12" Radius, 1 7/8" Nut Width, Vintage Tint
WEIGHT | 9.00 lbs. (on my scale)

Might recognize this as previously being in the Tom Bowlus collection. Tough to get the real beauty of the flame to show utilzing my extremely amateur camera skills but, here goes...

Only got to plink on it for a limited time thus far but, I'm diggin' it. It'll get a gig under it's belt this weekend. With this and my MV5, I've got all the sonic territory covered that I can dream of :bassist:

Thats why I had Pat Wilkens paint it.. I'm a sucker for a matching headstock... :hyper:

Really HOT looking bass! :)

Have you seen this: Invalid Link Removed

It sounds great.:bassist:

I have, and it does sound great. I think it's good that they demo all of their basses online.
IMO though I liked CraigB43's demo better because of the variety of tone... plus it sounded much fatter, lol.

Originally I though about just ordering a P instead of a PJ because I didn't want to limit the tonal variety (plus the jazz neck) I would have available... looks like I was wrong about it being limited. ;)

You SERIOUSLY scored on this bass (grats!!). I've played that one, and it's my favorite of ALL the "Modern" style Sadowskys I've ever played, including one I had which was pretty darned awesome itself. I think the key is that mahogany body. It enhances the low mids in really perfect way for these models.

So, I initially wanted to spec my 24F5 on order with an ash body and an amazon rosewood fingerboard, but it seems like this model gets a lot of mahogany body - ebony fretboard love... What's the deal?
All my other Sadowsky basses are ash / Brazilian rosewood or ash / amazon rosewood and I like their response very much. Thanks for your help.

Hey,

Wondering who has full-sized NYC Ultra Vintage models out there? I'd love to see them and be the first to told when anyone wants to sell one.

I love Roger's full-sized basses...the 7/8 Sadowsky body just doesn't feel "big" enough for me.

The key is the combo of this particular pickup type and location along with the wood combo. I'm ALSO an ash body kinda' guy on pretty much all the other models, but on this model, I think I'd always take mahogany first. I think that extra low mid push just does something magical for this combo. Not that the ash body basses aren't great, of course they are, but I personally like this combo best (ebony board with mahogany body).

IMHO!
