Beautiful basses! My uv70 and PJ 4 weighing in at 10 lbs and 9.5 respectfully are still manageable after a 2 1/2 gig. What I gain is an indescribable feeling of more substance and low end. Best part is that my 6'3" frame doesn't feel like I'm playing a ukelele. I've also owned a vintage NYC and it never felt right. Cursed Leo Fender!

I agree. To my ears the heavier ones have a naturally "compressed" sound whereas the lighter ones tend to sing a bit more. Or maybe I'm just going deaf after 30 years of standing next to a ride cymbal played by a ham-fisted drummer.......

And despite the compelling argument presented for me to get the headstock painted on the NYC UV - I like her just the way she is.

Not to change the current discussion here but I just wanted to say "Thanks!" again to ElMon for a great PJ5!

It arrived at my work today so I took a self-portrait next to the wall of awesome. Seemed fitting. Posted some on FB too.

Anyway, it needed some serious adjustments since it traveled from 20 degrees to 75 degrees in the last 4 days!! LOL! Yeah, it was a buzzing nightmare!

And, And, And.... I have my first "Lisa" bass! How very cool!

It's been soooo long since I had a 5 string that it took some getting used to at first. It's been over 2.5 years.

It does have some gig wear as was expected but generally it's in A1 condition. Schweeeeet!!!!

Now, my collection is complete! I'll have to get a new family picture this weekend.
Yeah, the tone is freakin' awesome too!!!

Yesterday Kevin sent me pics of the assembled and finished body for my bass. Looks fab, but it Made me think of something:

Canucks, have any of you been subjected to the cross-border UPS gouge on your Sadowsky? And are you generally subject to both federal and provincial taxes when receiving the bass? I'm trying to figure out how much extra cash I have to keep on hand.

If I were in your shoes I would make the drive down to NYC and pick it up in person. Those UPS brokerage fees are likely to be quite high...

Oh, and yeah, the whole burst with gold anodized on a P (or PJ)? Yeah, it works.

If it ships UPS Ground, you'll be gouged with brokerage fees. Either try and get a shipping rate that's "all in", that way you know what you're paying up front. Or, USPS is the best route and it will come in through Canada Post, which will generally charge a nominal fee for the handling, plus the taxes. Since it's US made, there should be no customs.
