The key is the combo of this particular pickup type and location along with the wood combo. I'm ALSO an ash body kinda' guy on pretty much all the other models, but on this model, I think I'd always take mahogany first. I think that extra low mid push just does something magical for this combo. Not that the ash body basses aren't great, of course they are, but I personally like this combo best (ebony board with mahogany body).

Hey,

Wondering who has full-sized NYC Ultra Vintage models out there? I'd love to see them and be the first to told when anyone wants to sell one.

I love Roger's full-sized basses...the 7/8 Sadowsky body just doesn't feel "big" enough for me.

Not looking to sell, but having owned a "downsize" Sadowsky I can tell you that I also prefer the full size body. Left to right....

Metro UV70 with Fender CS60's single coils and VTC added
NYC UV (Brazilian Rosewood on chambered Alder)
Tokyo RJ4 (Ash/Maple)

My #1 right now is the Tokyo. It's a bit on the heavy side at a shade over 9.5lbs, but has a wonderful "chunky" neck and sounds (to my ear) like a hybrid between a P and a J. The boost/cut treble is IMO more intuitive than the treble (boost only) and VTC (cut only) found on the regular preamps. Plugged into a tube amp driving a pair of 4x10's and I'm grinning on stage and killing out front....

Heres a pic of my 2 Sadowskys #5776 and #5391...
I just got #5391 about 6 weeks ago and sent the neck off to Pat Wilkens to paint the headstock to match the body and do his version of the thin-matte finish on the back of the neck.. It's a great bass (Thanx Bob)..
#5776 I bought new and actually played last April and didn't buy it till about July.. I always kept thinking about it and sold everything else once I got it..

Beautiful basses! My uv70 and PJ 4 weighing in at 10 lbs and 9.5 respectfully are still manageable after a 2 1/2 gig. What I gain is an indescribable feeling of more substance and low end. Best part is that my 6'3" frame doesn't feel like I'm playing a ukelele. I've also owned a vintage NYC and it never felt right. Cursed Leo Fender!

You gotta fix this blue NYC man! Have that headstock painted to match the body. How can you live like that ?

I actually really like the natural head stocks...something about the painted ones don't do it for me (in most cases anyway...)

I GENERALLY do agree with this, but for some reason, in this case, it works for me. Go figure.

Binding, blocks, and painted headstocks is where it's at!
I just wished they offered a p pup on the Metro UV with binding and blocks. I would have ordered that instead of the HPJ.

Hey, obviously I love painted headstocks.. Looks old school to me... Hey KOBASS I love the look on that P-5, especially with the tort guard and I knew exactly what mine was going to turn out like.... Blocks and binding are great as well...
