Not a 4 string, but I just had the TI jazz rounds on my 5 (curious about the TI powerbass munji's talking about). They're nickel as well and even smaller than the size you mentioned (.89 E string), great midrange tone. They worked out quite well for me, used one set for about 4 months.

I'm still rockin' the Sadowsky Blue Label Stainless Steel strings (45-105) on my Standard 4's!

I took the shipped Blues off (I hate SS) and put on a set of Dunlop nickel 45-105. Not crazy about them on this bass (liked them fine on my Fender). I will likely put a set of Fodera VW nickels (40-95) as that's what I use on my other basses and I *love* those strings. I'll look into the TIs.

*edit* $63 for a set of TIs? That's not gonna happen :D

waaaaay back when roger was first developing the strings, he let me try a set of the nickels. two sets if i remember correctly. the one i liked seemed to have become the "blue" set, and its all i use now. ever. and ever. period. exclamation point. no matter the gauge, i've tried them all. for now, the heavier sets seem to suit my aggressiveness.

just sad that he stopped making the guitar nickels in .09 gauge... :(

HAH! I've beaten this phenomenon. I have the Freakishly Good Luck Disruptor.

Between buying my NYCs used/off-the-shelf, and others being Metros that happened to both be exactly what I wanted and also already on the way in short term, I haven't suffered the SRDF at all.

Funny thing about that: I was so stressed and everything about mine when I ordered it (I mean that in the most extreme way possible; just ask Kevin). Then, as soon as I'd wired off the deposit, I got really zen about the whole thing. When Roger or Kevin e-mailed me pics and such, I 'd get excited (in a non-stressed way this time), but aside from that, I've managed to keep the bass at the back of my head rather than on top of my mind. I think when it arrives I'm going to go crazy, but I'm really not thinking about it these days.

I probably wouldn't be able to handle it otherwise...
