Didn't Roger switch to a different kind of pot that supposedly brought the sound of the HC's closer to that of the SC's? Or am I just delusional.
I will say that my brand-new ash/maple UV5 has a bunch of grind and punch and to my ears has more midrange content than did my old MV5, which was an earlier Metro. Thoughts? Musings? And I will apologize in advance if I got my 'brand history' wrong again. That can get a guy in trouble apparently...![]()
You're not delusional. He switched from the 250K volume pot to a 500K. HOWEVER, the effects are not drastic, and the significance of it was pretty actively debated back when he did it.Curious to know something about the SC vs HC thing:

FWIW - I've found DR Fat Beams to sound almost identical to Sadowsky strings... like splitting hairs.
There is a "feel" diference in that the Fat Beams are slightly lower tension FWIW - but sound, very close.
Fat Beams sound great on my UV70-4. I agree they do sound similar and lower tension but more pronounced in the upper mids. Zing without too much treble. Really happy with them.

Somebody's gonna save a BUNCH of build time to get this mint condition P-Bass!!! (this spec not available in stock at the moment) Edit: I see it's got a 9"r. That's a beautiful P w/braz bd.
I'll take this opportunity to show you how it sounds (pretty close anyway) w/flats & follow up on a previous post regarding coming up w/ a FAT tone. Blair's goin' country for a minute here.
P pup soloed w/lots of preamp bass & treble.(for a change). Sorry guys - no grind allowed on this baby.

That clip makes me wish I had a Sadowsky P (or PJ)...wait a sec! I just checked behind me and there is a sweet PJ looking at me
That's a sweet P there, even with the gold hardware.
That's not me...
That's Vic!
