pls help me! i am very confused for chose the model of metro series
fingerboard is gonna be rosewood and body is gonna be ash
and i want warmy,clean and vintage sound
so which one is give me that? i will give an order in a month
RV4 or UV-70 (i dont want will lee signature)

For Metro bass, you can only choose between Ash/Maple or Alder/Roswood combo, if you want Ash/Rosewood, you have to go for NYC's
I will go for RV4 if you need warm /clean type of sounds, while you can always dial different kind of tone by playing with EQ and tone control.

Actually, with Metro, you don't get rosewood, you get morado, and, it's feels different than rosewood, to me..
A little snappier/brighter than rosewood.
Frankly, I like the ash/maple better.....

A General Thanks:
To Vic, Tom, Ken, and some others who nudged me towards trying a Sadowsky. I'd never had a "small batch bass" before my Sadowsky, and it's been a path well trodden. Good stuff.
And to Blair, for the nudge to "try the amp with a trimmer setting, and using the Sadowsky preamp more." Also good stuff.

i have ash/maple p/j but i want little bit different tone than it,i want darker sound,so u think ash/maple RV4 gives me that feel?

Personally, I'd try flats before I'd buy a whole other bass.
Unless you just want two; then do it!

MV=ash/maple.
So, if you want an ash/maple JJ; that's MV4.

If you have ash/maple HPJ now, you will find the alder/morado bass warmer & what you might call "cleaner". I think morado sounds more like rosewood than maple.
As far as vintage tone, even my Sadowsky NYC ash/rw P4 w/PJs does not have the SAME "vintage" tone as my Fender P-Bass, & that bass is alder/maple. A Sadowsky bass can sound pretty vintage but it IS unique as I'm sure you already know.

EDIT: Like Chef said, flat wound Sadowsky strings (SBF45) will get you a more vintage warmer sound as well. Not always an easy or touch-appealing switch but may be worth a try.
I used to use the "passive" bass input on amps for active basses to get more output but "active" input (padded input) is huge when boosting preamp on the bass.
I'd love to hear a clip of a gig recording you do w/your PJ using the preamp boost/ padded input on amp.

yes and i guess i am ok with alder/morado but u think rv4 and uv-70 are smiller or should i go for rv4

I still never use the active pad...I'm just turning down the bass at the amp some, and boosting at the bass guitar.
To me, using the active input just kills tone, unless the bass is actually making the front end of the amp clip.
I'll try it again, but I don't expect I'll like it. I've been wrong before though.

If my memory serves me correct you are a GK guy?? I've been playing GK amps forever, and although it shouldn't, to me, the pad on a GK amp is a tone vacuum. I use the passive input and reduce the initial gain.
Ken made some comment about that padded issue in this thread.

Edit: I use padded input of the bass track in recording after the bass processing now so the preamps can run a hotter signal, with occasional boosted gain. This means the tone is enhanced, not reduced.
