I hate to let this topic go without some discussion.
On your (& my) WA head, the front end gain stage is pretty impressive. If I boost the Sad' preamp to get a nice FAT tone, AND I wish to add some gain dirt & EXCITE that tone @ the WA, the sensible thing to do would be to pad the bass input. Since I can't test that on a gig I sure hope you can give us some feedback on it. I know you have been using the "other" head :) , so like you say ymmv. Can't these guys give us a pad that won't suck tone? It's like the cap in the VTC on a Sad'. It does a good job of rolling off part of the tone without diminishing the QUALITY of the tone. Can't this be done with an input pad to protect the integrity of the tone rather than roll it off ?

IMO:
there's no need to use the input pad on the WA.
It doesn't clip, so, why use it?
I dial back bass at the para, 50hz or so, and a little at the shelving bass, and then crank the instrument to 30-50% or so.
Seems to work out, for me.

Just wanna share with you all, my Brazilian rosewood fingerboard got dinged around 3rd Fret on last Saturday...:crying: I don't actually care about dings but it is a bit annoying this time and I can feel the that when I'm playing, so I thought I gotta fix this, Luckily... Found this useful info from the man himself on Sadowsky Forum.

Try steaming it out. Take a small piece of paper towel and fold it a few times and moisten. Then press the tip of a soldering iron right over the ding (with the paper towel between the iron and the neck). If 2 or 3 attempts do not produce results, prop the bass sideways so the ding is vertical and place a very small but damp piece of paper towel directly on the ding. Leave it there for a few hours and see if there is any improvement.

If not, have a competent tech fill the ding with superglue or thickened lacquer.

Tried today when I back to my studio with solder iron, the results were good and success I could tell, though I can still feel it but it is not nearly as noticable. ;)

Well... I was gonna' try and see if I could part with my PJ5 Metro, and just be a Sadowsky "J guy", but after playing it this past weekend, I can't let it go yet. My gosh there's just a phatness that comes from that P pickup that is so perfect for some gigs, and that unique PJ sound really does work for me. Deferred for another day... looking at other stuff now... :help:

NOT going to happen. As great as that PJ is, the JJ still makes me happier. :)

That said, there is a potential "shuffle" happening in my stable due to a recent acquisition, and there might be a certain solid body NYC MV5 up for grabs in a little while... maybe the one you think, maybe not... but I only need one... and that's all I'm saying right now... we'll see. :)

P.S. "not going to happen" in my case does in fact apply to "both" losing the JJ's as well as coming to my senses in a more general meaning. Don't see that on the radar right now... life's too much fun as a crazy person... ;) :D

I know what you are saying.. I made the mistake of playing the PJ-5 I have up for sale.. I'm a Jazz bass guy, but that P pickup is so fat sounding !!

Unless you've already got a wicked PJ. I don't remember seeing one in your collection. An
