I definitely appreciate it, and honestly, I've always said the "magic" to a Sadowsky is not really magic at all... it's the direct result of YEARS of working directly with top professionals to refine what really works best for them. That's not really magic, it's just smart.

I just appreciate the opportunity to participate, since most of the people you've worked with thus far are WAY outa' my league!

I own 3 of the pre's - and 800hz is where the mids land for me - 500hz for the kick to keep us separated. To be useful, a 250-300hz mid point would be the only other choice for me. I'd love a mid retro-fit for the preamps I already have... stack knob on the VTC?

I vote for 300 though I'd prefer 240.

Just had a thought: would a 3-way switch work where up would boost the mid frequency, down would cut the same frequency (both boost and cut could have different levels) and the middle would bypass the mid circuit?

Roger, you said, in your "Behind The Notes" interview, that you
thought that 300hz added mud to a bass sound. I don't think you
should go against your original idea. That being said, I find that
250hz adds a real nice thumpy, punchy low mid boost that helps
me "feel" the bass on stage.

I concur with some previous posts that the existing preamp is pretty close to optimal as-is. Certainly one of the best if not the best preamp out there. My previous comment regarding the 200 Hz to 300 Hz boost is simply based on the way I tend to EQ in the clubs at the amp. I'm all good with the two band pre as it is; but, if you want to tweek, that 200 Hz to 300 Hz area is the one thing I do add at the amp. Heck, I'm not even too sure about the exact frequencies, because those knobs on the amp aren't all that precise. To me, somewhere in that range gives a "fat but tight" feel to the tone. If the bass had that in it, the amp would be be flat, for the most part. That's all.

Anyhow, major kudos to Roger for being an excellent artisan as well as customer dedicated businessman.

The frequency switch would be in addition to the on/off switch.
It would replace the switch on the circuit board.

Dropped by the shop the other day and they sure have a nice selection. some aren't on the inventory page.

There was a sweet vintage with black blocks and a dark cherry burst with a really nice BEM board.

The gold vintage 5 was very sweet. The black pearl 24/5 with tort guard was my pick of the bunch though. Couldn't put it down. There was also a real sweet metro MV5. It had that 70's honk to a T.

Overall not a place you want to go if you want to preserve your bank balance.

My new (to me) PJ5 sounded great at my gig Friday. I have another 1 set gig this afternoon and I'm only
taking the Sadowsky. Looks like its a keeper.

@ Vic: I had to get a set of strings quick so I put some DR Lowrider Nickels on it. I might try the Sadowky Blues next.

I generally find that around 500 is where I want to boost my mids. On my MTDs my mid frequency selector is always set to 500 (the options are 250, 500 and 1000). I honestly don't think I've used the other mid frequency options on a gig. And I don't think I'd want to boost much higher than 800 (in terms of mids) so my vote goes to 300. It's funny, my corporate band's sound man told me last night that he usually gives me a bit of a mid boost for clarity in the house but I didn't think to ask exactly which frequency he was boosting (I've been using my Sadowsky pre-equipped Lull on that gig).

One of my goals has always been to design things to be "plug and play". There are a myriad of outboard EQ devices to enable one to dial in a very specific frequency and Q. I am actually still very happy with my original 2 band EQ. My original thought was just to move the frequency switch on the circuit board to a mini toggle and realized that a 3 way switch takes up the same space as a 2-way.

I appreciate everyone's input on a choice for a 3rd frequency.

You are so right. I dial in a touch of bass boost and then only really adjust the VTC. I almost never use the mid boost on my Will Lee.

I just started using a wireless system and the highs are even more present than when I'm using a cable. At first I was at a bit of a loss (the sound is great for some stuff but a little too much for certain songs) but then I remembered that I had the VTC! It does the job perfectly in taming the highs without taking away any punchiness.
