In a couple cases, somehow, the mechanism kinda' got out of sync, which can be "fixed" by snapping one of the tips back to where it's supposed to go, but a couple times and it just stops working right in general. I could probably handle the stand a bit more carefully in the future, but sometimes loading in/out you get in a hurry, weather, etc, and you tend to toss stuff a little. Stands without mechanisms like this won't have this problem.

The other issue I've had is how most of their models are more of a square cage with relatively thin and specifically located pads, rather than just a coated yoke. What that means is certain headstock shapes/sizes will cause the bass to be a little off kilter and you could actually end up with hard plastic contact against wood. Just being careful getting the bass in/out minimizes risk of marring, but there is some risk nonetheless.

Overall, both are low probability low risk issues, but just to say as good as they are, they aren't perfect, either.

Ideally, I'd love to see more of their stands with that "universal" (yoke) system up top, but one that folds up. If you think about it, if a more gripping mech needed, the bass/stand are already falling forward and you have bigger issues than worrying if the neck comes out of the holder or not.

I've never had a problem, but FYI, they make an 'open yoke' model also that is a lot like the Genesis.

Hope my other crap sells soon.
The furnace just about tapped me out. And now TWO tires needed. Because Michigan roads cant just wipe out one tire......anyone who has been here or libes here will tell you, the roads are the worst.

You know, the Sadowsky can be used to generate money through performance as well... not just sacrifice. And someone with your great talent... just sayin'... :)

Roger is banished to his own corner... :D

Thanks everybody for the thoughts on stands...my preference for gigs is something that is compact enough to fit into a bag I carry that also has a small fan in it. I will try that Hercules though, even if I don't take it out it will be great to keep in my studio.

I've heard the Hamiltons fold up pretty nice and provide a pretty solid hang for the instrument, but have never tried one yet myself.

I gigged those Hamiltons for many years before switching to Hercules. They are also rugged. On one of mine, a rivet popped out of a tripod support, but I field-repaired it with a paper clip. :p

The only caveat to the Hamilton is that the telescoping hanger section is somewhat less secure. Specifically, it's held up by tightening a screw (top plastic knob in photo), and if you don't tighten it enough, the weight of the bass could pull the telescoping thing down into the shaft and the butt of your bass could hit the ground. Answer: make sure the knob is good and tight. :p Still, the Hercules telescoping hanger is secured with a pin-into-hole mechanism (forgive my non-technical jargon!) which has never failed me.

I love blue, and how Bora over a quilt looks positively oceanic. The thing I don't love is the vintage tint. Kind of makes for one too many 'colours' on that bass, because the blue seems to make the fretboard redder and the headstock yellower.
