Those are Norstrand Fat Stacks - not found in the production models, so far as I know, only in this early prototype.

I had one of the first of these after the protos. Mine looked identical. Gloss black, flamed maple board, blk hardware, diamond control layout, etc. mine had big singles. My buddy has the red proto w the pick guard you might have seen

Supposedly the finish on this is actually black pearl, don't know if it has any sparkle to it or not from the photos I've seen. Yes, I bought it without playing it .

Haven't seen the proto you speak of, but sounds cool.
