Second: the Sadowsky blue labels (steel and nickel) are fairly low tension/high flexibility. I know what you mean, a change in touch is required. I can't speak to the Smith compressors, but will mention that the Sadowsky black labels (also offered in SS and nickel) will feel better to you, and have a tapered B.

Yeah, I am also considering those.

For me, I really like the Sadsowsky Blues.
Yes, they're lower tension. That lets me move a softer touch into my playing, all the way across the dynamic range, and, relax into my playing more.

That suits me fine. Took a while to readjust my touch to it, but, now I very much like it.

Yeah, I am definitely in the "Took a while to readjust my touch to it" phase. It's definitely happening - I am getting more and more comfortable on this bass.

In hindsight, what I should have done is strung one of my other basses that I am familiar with with the Sadowsky Blues. That way I could have sussed out how much of the change in feel is due to strings.

As it happened, it was new bass + new strings, and it's a whole new world. Not a bad world by any stretch. The question is, how much do I stay an "old dog" and how much do I focus on learning "new tricks".

Indeed we are....I LOVE this bass and have used it for every gig since I got it! Poor MV4 (ash/maple w/singles! ) and MV5 are getting dusty...

The one thing I wish were different about it is the color. It is beautiful but I kinda wish it was trans red instead! Can I send it to the shop for a re-fin?

Singer/songwriter I work with some opened for a regional touring act tonight.
I didn't know if they wanted to share backline, or, what that would be, so I brought my usual GK MBF/Neo212; it's an easy carry, and it sounds great.
Their bassist was cool sharing, but, he had a racked SVT/HLF410: very much not my thing. So, I set my rig in front of his, and we did out set, with me playing the ash/maple MV5JJ.
At the end of the set, I bagged the MV5, and grabbed my rig and toted it off; again, it's an easy move.

Their bassist said, "man, I wash my stuff was that easy to move, and sounded that great, what is that?"

I said, "Well, that's GK gear, but, it doesn't matter what that was.That was my Sadowsky, straight to the board, out of the strobostomp tuner/DI. The amp wasn't in the signal chain."

Yup: Sadowsky MV5JJ w/single coils.
Winning at bass.
