Metros aren't that much more than a top shelf Fender Deluxe or, CS, really.
The last job I did with my MV5, I had someone come up and ask "when did you start playing a Fender Marcus Miller? That thing sounds great!"
I said "It's a Sadowsky MV5."
They said "huh?"
Which is fine by me, really.
And, it really doesn't sound very Fender MM, btw.

Agree 100% about "stealth mode". The question I dread is "how much did it cost?", because the answer often triggers a jaw-dropping moment.It can be hard to explain, y'know?

Yep...once in a while I'll play with a guitar player that knows what a Sadowsky is and they'll ask me about it. But usually it's just a comment like "nice Fender" or "whoa, a five string?"

Metro isn't an option for me because I'm a 5-string P-bass guy (I'm fussy that way), but point taken: I could lead out with the Metro price to lessen the jaw-dropping.

Of course there's the relativity factor. At an upscale private gig, an audience member said "nice Sadowskys". He also played bass -- "a little bit at home for fun, no band" -- but his collection included an Alembic and a Ritter. That was my jaw dropping moment
(but I am much happier with my Sadowskys, thank you)
You're right. We do sometimes have to compromise to adjust for various work ethics. As long as it doesn't become burdensome, it can work fine. I just never wanna' be "that guy".
Fussy to the point the PJ5 wouldn't work? When you solo the P and especially in passive mode, it's pretty much just a 5 string P.
I must admit I prefer the P-Body aesthetic on P's or P-J's it just looks more symmetrical to me. Not that I couldn't get with a P/j if I absolutely needed it. But to me P pickups just look like they're at home on P body. But what do I know I'm now a four string J guy.
I must admit Rickey Minors Sadowsky P sounds killer on Leno. It appears to have become his main bass. Maybe that's because it's more original than that copy of Bluesy Cats red J Sadowsky he was playing.
But I suspect Rickey Minor would sound good with a Squire P bass, too.
Sadly, my OCD forces me to play five string P-basses with P-style bodies (as Fran said). So, no Metro for me -- and I completely understand, I'm in a small niche!

Ha! I didn't even know of RM when I ordered my T-Red JJ4!!! It wasn't until much later that I discovered I had the same bass.

So when you guys walked into an audition with your Sadowsky was there a jaw-dropping moment? And even more gawking when you plugged in?
I'll readily admit that for me, audition bass is the Fender. It's just easier that way.
Just got fired from one of my bands so they could bring in a friend of the singer to play bass. I'm not hurt, life moves on. This band was going nowheres fast anyways.
As you explained it's not the end of the world, but still... that's lame. :scowl:
