I'm just wondering what should I ask them? What should I find out?
what are the specific plans for gigs?, because everyone says they wants 'em, but not everyone is as psyched about doing what you gotta do to get the gigs (demos, marketing, image, music quality is usually the last thing you need to worry about).
Good point. This 7pc project is new and from what I understand, is still coming together. Not 1 practice yet. The 3 pc band seems more suited so I am going to inquire about it. Less shows, they are local, and the guitarist is my ex-instructor! Actually, he was my first bass instructor.
Oh darn. Sorry to derail the Sadowsky club! Carry on.....
Btw: I am really starting to enjoy the Sadowsky Steels on my pj5. I was wondering if anyone tried the la Bella steel flats or the Ernie ball cobalts on yer Sads?
In the little texting that has transpired today. The drummer thinks I am perfect. The band is a 7-piece called Network 7. But so far, that's all I know. I'm not opposed to gigging but I have always looked at my playing as a hobby and I enjoy that.
Taking to a new level is foreign - 100% foreign. Funny, I am slightly excited about it. Not afraid. Feels odd. Hoping to get the chance to at least audition.
Edit: now for the problem if this comes to life.....I don't have gear that is portable.
If the drummer thinks you're perfect, 'nuff said. You'll do a fantastic job.
Well, I have to audition first!! Hopefully, I don't choke! LOL!

I'll just drop a tidbit here now since some of you are in a different time zone.
But, my idiotcoworker dropped my name over the weekend to someone who is specifically looking for a female bass player.
yada, yada, yada....I'm entertaining the idea and setting up a meet.
So. My Sadowsky may get some gigging time this year...

That is exactly right ! What a blessing it is for us to have this bass thing , make a few extra bucks and take our heads away from the 8 hour thing. At least for me it gets me thru the daily grind knowing I have a gig or a rehearsal or just to wake up at 5 am and practice for a hour before work , love it . She is going to have a blast.
Well, I have my first meeting (just lunch) with the drummer tomorrow.
If the drummer and bass player really click, a band is already halfway to great.
... Although one does rarely use the words "think" and "drummer" in one sentence
, in this case it's usually correct......Good luck Bluesy... let the Sadowskys rip!

Tully Kennedy, playing with Jason Aldean, on "Today" right now, playing a white Sadowsky PJ.
This is very true. Can even be someone you don't like but once you start playing you really work well together.
You only need to make sure you're on the same page for these things:
1.) How frequently to the hope/expect to play? This is important, because if you disagree here, the band won't last due to schedule conflicts and eventual frustration.
2.) What musical spectrum will the band cover? This is important because you don't want anybody in the band feeling like they have to "put up with" too much of the music. You should have enough overlap in the band members' prefs to stay within the "like to love" range of music. If any of it "sucks" to anyone, they won't last, and that could also mean the band doesn't last.

Tully and I traded Sadowsky basses last year, then I believe he had this one made for him.
I traded my white 5-Sad reverse P-J for his Sad 5/JJ single coil.
I still have the Sad JJ/5 sounds amazing.
So I don't think its the same bass, but who knows, maybe he will chime in and tell us.

Obvious but sometimes overlooked: make sure the discussion includes rehearsal time. Some bands prefer to do homework with few or no collective rehearsals, others rehearse once or more per week.
There's also the "hang factor": your bandmates' personalities and habits. Not something you can ask about directly, you have to go by intuition -- or perhaps you've been clued in already by mutual acquaintances.
FWIW I love gigging so much that I have moderate (though not unlimited) tolerance for the related hassles, bandmate drama, etc. Best of luck, I hope you get to experience that same thrill!
