Hard to say with that poor audio. Let's wait till some official stuff is realeased. Maybe Roger remembers what strings were on that bass when Tal got it.
That tone reminds me of the Acoustic 360 folded horn sound. Lots of "tub" in that sound & it got thrown out front BIG time!

Just throwing this out there. I have a Sadowsky drop tuner in the classifieds for $45. If one of you guys wants it I will sell it to a Sadwosky club guy for $35. Its for an NYC. I just don't need it.

I heard JJ Cale in 1973 or 74 w/Carl Radle on P-bass, which was a treat also. Carl came out on stage ALONE & started grooving for about 5 minutes. Then the drummer joined in & then the others, & when they had everybody cookin' in a pocket, JJ walked out with an old Harmony flat top w/pups & the back of the guitar was gone.
I was so wasted that I think I stopped breathing til they wrapped. 
VERY memorable concert.

It's a setup issue. The clicking sound you are hearing on the A and E plucked notes is from your finger hitting the string below it. For instance after you pluck the A string your finger will come to rest on the E string. When your finger hits the E string it makes a percussive click sound. Does this make sense?
This primarily happens when you get your action too low. Either raise your action, change your plucking motion, or learn to love all the extraneous noise that comes from playing the bass.

I am a bit hesitant to conclude that it's a setup issue. In terms of neck relief, a .012 inch feeler gauges slips under a notched straight-edge that is sitting on the board (not the frets), so I think the setup is good. The setup hasn't been changed radically since coming from the NYC store, and it was recently tweaked by Carl Pedigo here in Chicago. But I'm not ruling setup out as a cause. It's low, but not radically so, and seems to fall within the setup guidelines described [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].
It sounds to my ears, like there's something loose on the bass that is rattling when I dig in to the strings with fingers.
I don't seem to have the same issue with my other basses which have similar setups.
I like the sound of fret sizzle too, when I mean to dig in and add a little dirt. But this phenomenon sounds like "thwack-thwack-thwack" every time I hit a normal finger pad-plucked note.
Listen closely for the sound. If its happening right after the string is plucked, it's from the follow thru of your finger hitting the next string. does the sound go away when you pluck upwards? If so, that's your culprit. As for setup, you can go by specs, but I go by feel and use my ears (my action is always lower than spec).

I've had this problem before with one of my basses.
I think that your action OR bridge setup is so low
that the strings are hitting the pickup as you pluck.
Either lower the pickup or raise the strings.

Several possibilities come to my head:
Play the bass and while you do it, hold each knob. One of them might me slightly loose and that might be the vibration that you hear (this has happened to me).
Another possibility is that one of the saddle screws on the bridge is not resting on the bridge plate. Do the same test while you use the allen wrench to hold each screw.

I'd like to have this one in a p/j! And it wouldn't need the fancy top but it doesn't hurt either.
