Club Sadowsky!!!

I am thinking of a new build wood recipe - nothing too radical. I'm pretty certain I'll be going with one of the rosewoods for the fingerboard.

But - I've already got 3 other Alder + Rosewood basses, so I was thinking maybe Ash + Rosewood, to give a slightly different tone, since I've got the Alder + Rosewood palette covered.

Bonus question: I'm also thinking Soapbars ... Anyone playing Ash + Maple + Soapbars?

60's soap bars position or std bridge soap bars position?!

Played ash + rosewood + sc exclusively in last 2 years, nothing but good experience, you get the punch from ash while the rosewood board brought you some warmth.

My RV4 is ash with a brazilian rosewood board. Works great. :bassist:
My bass has the standard Sadowsky HCs so not experienced the soapbars though.

Hey all,

I've got a gorgeous Sadowsky Metro that I am upgrading away from. It's a decent 10lb but I'm reminiscing of my old Mike Lull V4 that was 8.5lb.

This led me to stumble upon this great find, my first NYC at 7.8lb that should be arriving in just two days!

It unfortunately has no VTC but I'll be ordering a kit once they restock it on the Sadowsky website and get a local tech here to install it.

Thoughts on a pickguard for this bass? I'm thinking about white pearloid, black, or red tort. Or maybe all three...

If the two fingerboards are the same wood, i would expect the difference between ash and alder bodies to be very, very subtle. Not that it wouldn't be a great bass, I just would expect it to be in the same ballpark as what you have.

Brazilian RW is a very different animal than the various woods mostly offered as rosewood. It doesn't have that "mushy" vibe like the other "rosewoods."

I had a NYC with BRW. It was really more "ebony-ish" than one might think. In terms of feel, it actually felt more like the maple board basses I had than the morado basses.

In the grand scheme of things these differences are subtle and variable (yadda yadda), but my alder/BRW P5 matches your description. I was expecting softer top end, but it has a surprising amount of clarity: the treble is voiced higher than my alder/maple P5, closer to my alder/ebony MM5.

I haven't done careful comparisons using fresh, identical string sets, but I've had these basses for years now and that's what I seem to hear consistently.

I have to thank Roger for making this amazing Pre. I have now done over 10 sessions with it and all my clients are flipping out over how good the tone is. I keep the boosts at around 9 or 10 oclock and my Lakland Jazz sounds insanely versatile. More boom when I back off the neck a hair, and huge R&B thickness with both pickups on full.

I always wanted a Sadowsky bass since I was a young guy, and currently this is as close as I can get while I do work. I definitely will get one day soon, but this pre is a complete game changer if you are a working bassist.

Had only one experience with Brazilian RW, but it was on a 5-24 that I believe used to belong to Chasarms (mahogany body, amboyna top), and was very surprised by the liveliness of the fretboard and neck. Ironically, my current NYC 5-24 is ebony/mahaogony/koa, and it has a much deeper and centered voice, which I truly and deeply dig. I'm hoping that whoever now has that Brazilian RW board is a slapper, 'cuz that axe was excellent in that mode...but I'm a fingerstyle guy.
