I believe all Sadowsky basses NYC and Metros are strung with Blue Label Stainless Steel strings.
That's all I have been using since Roger offered them. Great tone, feel and longevity!

Dunlop nickels with a 130T maybe. Pedulla nickels will sound great but a little lower tension. Have you tried sadowsky blue nickel?

I would only recommend Dunlop nickels if you're into very dull sounding strings. Now, that's exactly what some people are looking for. Me, I want the stainless steel sound with the nickel feel. So D'Addarios were closest for me. Just saying that if you haven't tried the Dunlop nickels yet, know that they are a great string, but very very warm and dull sounding. Not for me. I've never tried their SS strings, just the nickels. I keep a 5-string pack as my spare.

The Sadowsky Blue Stainless are my fave strings.
I gotta have the 130 though, the 125's are a little too skinny and not quite the right tension for me.

I do like DA XL170 nickels on some basses.
I like the Dunlop well enough to use them some; both the nickle and the ss.

Does anyone know exactly what is going on with the Black Label nickels? I see both 4 and 5 strings sets on the Sadowsky site. After a long string search, I've happily settled on the Black Labels. I'm only playing 4 string right now though. First no more Genz and now my fav strings? Ugh

I love mine on my HPJ 4. High tension, smooth feel, and mid punch and clarity without the high pinging fret noise of steels.
As a sloppy player I can appreciate anything that makes my playing less terrible and hides my flaws. :)
Plus if you lower the action they get much grindier than steels which is fun too. I don't even use OD anymore on rock tunes.

Sadowsky blues are all hex core, and the HiBeams are round core... I don't see how the HB's could not be slinkier... (IMHO/IME, they very much are slinkier).

I use to use Smith Rock Masters Stainless Steel strings too. Loved the purple wrap! But, I'm strictly Blue Label SS now on both my Standard 4s!

The wife made this out of wire. I think it's pretty cool.

Can't speak to what's "comparable" to blue nickels, but can tell you that R. Cocco nickel rounds have been my favorite round for several years now. Have them on a 5-24 and on a Pedulla fretless, and they are excellent. Medium tension, medium timbre (not too bright, not too dark), and some unworldly ability to sound more in tune, when chording in the upper register, than anything else I've used. Really great strings.

I was looking at those and trying to ascertain whether they're round core or hex. Maybe I'll shoot an email over there.

Just to clarify, I'm looking for subs for the Black label strings.
