Check out the first page on this thread. I'm playing a 4 string PJ. IIRC Roger said that he sells 50% of each. Maybe that ratio has changed lately, but I doubt it.
I have had 6 Sadowskys including the one I currently own, and all of them but one have been 4 strings. 2 of them NYC's and 4 Metros. I used to play 5 string basses almost exclusively but have since moved back to 4's primarily. Aside from my RV5-Will Lee
In. Here's a decent shot of bass + rig from an outdoor festival over the summer.
I played another outdoor gig this Sunday. Nice muggy weather, big band, small-ish PA, and another stage about 200 yards away. The soundman came up to me during a break asking "What are you using to hit those low notes? You got a pedal or something?" I told him nope, just the bass. He said he couldn't believe how much "growl" was coming through the PA. I've said it before - this bass is the only one I've ever played where I've received compliments from the sound crew at gigs.

Has anyone installed a D-Tuner on a Metro 5 string? I'm wondering if there's any concerns about the size of the tuner on a 5 string headstock...

I started playing 5s around three years ago and have barely touched a 4 since (hence my recent sale of my beloved Standard 4). For me there's really just no point in not having that extra string (besides the extra cost!). The only time I play a 4 now is when someone insists on a Fender (I've learned there's no point in trying to convince such people that I have non-Fenders that can do the job just as well, if not better
).Indeed. I pray to the gods of bass (John Paul Jones, Tony Levin, Derek Smalls) before every gig that my SM-400 doesn't ever permanently die on me.
I actually had an SM-400 die on me in the middle of a national tour!
Luckily it wasn't permanent (though the amp was sidelined for the rest of that tour)...
In with my Metro WL (I do need to take the protective film off the pg one of these days).
