Agreed. I also don't really like the idea of altering the bridge such that the mass/coupling from string to string is inconsistent. Maybe it's no big deal, but I'd sweat over it a little.

Good point on the location. Any shims I do from now on will be there.

So in option #2, what you mean is that the shim should be placed in the body on top of the _rearmost_ (i.e., bridge end) screw holes, right?

thank you very much for your answer. Really apreciated.

I want to be clear, my Sadowsky is an excelent bass. There is no a bad setting or any problem with.
It is just, as I love this bass, I want to get it in the "perfect in my taste" set up.

Roger's basses (and guitars) are one of the best example of attention to details applied to an instrument, plus they sound great and are light (great for us old fart working musicians )

A note, I use sand paper as shim (different grain=different thickness)… it's been working like a charm for ME...

IMHO, almost all Fender style basses have neck dive if played while seated. I think the biggest factor affecting neck dive with a strap is how slippery or grippy the underside of the strap is.

Agreed...and I've had a LOT of Fender/Fender style basses. Roger's straps. or a MONO strap will also help alleviate that issue.

My experience, too. Over the years I've had a boatload of Fenders and Fender style basses, both Ps and Js: American and Mexican Fenders, Lakie Skylines, Carvin SB 5K, and my current workhorses, an MV5 and an RV5.

IME, the Carvin and those Metros balance on the knee as well or better than the rest. No prob at all when standing, and I play it funk-style with the strap short and the neck pointing up a bit--the better to slap and pop, my dear.

I've used the Neotech strap for several years, and it stays put on my shoulder. And with those basses the balance is good enough it doesn't tug my shirt.

FWIW, I don't notice the neck dive much myself... even when seated, and not at all when standing, and the straps I've been using for years are just the deluxe Levi's padded 4" strap. Can't get away from them. I have a couple that are really well broken in, and not even the neo straps feel better (tho the neo straps do grip better on your shoulder).

I've been wanting one in my vintage style J for a while now. I really don't want to drill a hole in the side of the body for it if I don't have to...

Recently traded a Metro Will Lee...and while I love the sound and the playability, I've noticed a bit of neck dive

Anyone else experience this?

I've owned 2 Metro Will Lees in the past 2 years, 1st a MV4 and now an RV4. I didn't/don't notice any neck dive with either one, standing or sitting. I primarily use a 4" Moody strap (leather backing, not suede) or sometimes a Sadowsky Neostrap. I never weighed either bass, but I'm guessing they were both in the same ballpark.

The NeoStrap is the most comfortable strap I've owned, but I could never get used to the stretchiness. I will definitely grab a couple of the Sadowsky cotton straps.

+1 Same for me the past 5 years. I think I have 4 of them.

However, Roger (as usual) totally nailed it - that the key is the traction of the leather on the underside of the strap. I recently picked up one of the fancy tooled leather jobs from Levy's for my Fender J Deluxe that sports the Sadowsky preamp. Sharp Dressed Man! But, the leather on the underside has all the grab of Teflon. This in contrast to the exact same strap I had bought a year earlier for my RV4, which grabs like a spring tick on my shoulder.

BTW, my RV4 balances like a champ. Great bass!

I like the cotton strap because it folds up better and easier to put in my bag for transport. I usually leave that one in my bag and use the NeoStrap at home.
