Club Sadowsky!!!

I know that the different Sadowsky pickups have been discussed to death. I seem to continue to evolve my thoughts in this area.

My first Sadowsky was Metro 5 that I specifically asked Roger & Co to change out the pups to single coil before it left the shop. That was a great bass. Sound guys loved it and constantly gushed about it. I was a SC fanatic.

Now, I have had this RV4 with the Hum Cancelling pups for a couple of years. And, I have to say that these HC's have really grown on me. The more strident SC's remind me more of the Fender J; but, these HC's have a chewiness about their tone that I am liking more and more.

Fortunately, Roger now offers quite an array of pup choices - something for everyone and all fantastic instruments. But, I have come to feel that the HC's on his 4 string instruments are his stamp on the Jazz bass evolution. The Real Deal (for me). YMMV

Perhaps it depends on the board being used. the bass mentioned looks like a regular roasted maple board. Looking at the all the basses in the recently sold section... they look pretty similiar.

The white one he has been playing as of late has two of the Sadowsky soapbars in jazz locations - 60s if I remember correctly.

Are you talking about the Nordstrand NJ5 based Sadowsky SC's, or the SD based ones?

Comparing the two Nordstrand built versions, I honestly can't hear a difference. I suppose there might be one, but it's beyond my ability to hear.

Comparing the SD based to the Nordstrand, I feel like the Nordstrands are more aggressive in the mids... more grunt, but otherwise, pretty similar. I do very much like Nordstrand pickups in general, but for my personal tastes, I prefer the SDs in my Sadowsky basses.

Thanks, I'll clarify: with the sadowsky singles I felt I lost way too much high end and put the hcs back in. I picked up a set of nj5s cheap and may try them. If it's the same pup, I guess I just flip them. Ultimately I'm just trying to get the bass to sound just like it does with the hcs but with warmer and more present mids.

Can't get away from them. I have a couple that are really well broken in, and not even the neo straps feel better (tho the neo straps do grip better on your shoulder).

I bought one of those in NYC in 2000 and I love it. I also have a Sadowsky neostrap that is also great but I prefer the way leather looks.
