Club Sadowsky!!!

pLEASE ...BEFORE YOU WOULD EVEN THINK OF SWAPPING....
anything new takes getting used to. Start over from scratch. reset your amps flat. Now...start by setting your pickup height. get the relationship of the 2 pickups correct to best suit your style. Dont be afraid to try many different settings. Ive actually had some neck pickups almost flush with the body, yet still got a good full tone from it. On my NYC 5...the front pickup is pretty low..it can be a little too hot.(and adding bass made it to over the top.) I like a good , solid note with no buzz and the B and E to be very clear, even and full. once I got this set correctly, adding just a touch of eq on the bass, it came alive. This bass is different from others youve tried. Its really about rethinking your approach. I assure you....if you do this...you will get what your looking for. Be patient. it may take time, but the rewards will be unreal.

VERY GOOD ADVICE HERE!! I had forgotten that on a lot of my basses I have had to adjust the PUP height a tad by dropping the Bass side or raising the treble side and it makes all the difference in the world!! I have done this on a LARGE percentage of my Sadowskys with excellent results!

Peace,

T

I always run my amps pretty much flat, so I'm OK there. I'll try adjusting pickup heights, that's a good idea.

Also, the idea of running an outboard pre is a good one, that way I can leave the bass intact.

Thanks for all the advice, and don't worry, I'm not the type to fly off the handle and modify a nice instrument without getting to know it first. I was really just wondering what the Sadowsky user community thought, so this is great.

OMG someone doesn't like their Sadowsky! Heaven forbid. Don't worry smeet, I sold mine too, and don't regret it.
:rollno:

For the record, I've never supported the notion someone should be given a hard time if they find a Sadowsky doesn't fit them, but doesn't this qualify as the same class of comment? C'mon, dude. Unnecessary.

Yes, I do agree with you 100% Vic. I doubt there are many of us here that would say a Sadowsky is the "get all, end all bass" That is why we have chocolate and vanilla.

I think the point that Dave really missed was that Smeet said he was not real happy with the Sadowsky preamp. He never said he was not happy with his Sadowsky. Two totally different things.

may i come in, sirs?
Don't have pictures yet, but suppose everybody have seen already that pretty PJ//JJ4 Fran Diaz Special Edition.
So i'm in with the PJ/JJ and NYC Vintage5. Proud ex-owner of two NYC and three Metro's.
And Fran, thanks again for great Bass

You're in: #153 welcome aboard Andrey and thanks for your kind words :) I knew that you were going to be very happy with that bass...and it's a twin to my fretless Sadowsky so we are in the family now :).

See first line of my above comment...............

It's all good. I actually really like Sadowsky basses, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better man to buy an expensive bass from than Roger.

+1. I have never dealt with a bass company that offers better service. Ernie Ball is 2nd, but Sadowsky is by far #1 IMO.

Very few owners of bass companies are receptionists as often as Roger either!;):D

I had 2 different technical questions/issues last week with my Sadowsky basses (a bridge question and a magnet flaking out on a pickup) and Roger took care of both of them personally.:) Not only did Roger troubleshoot the problem... he even took my credit card info and processed the order.:hyper: Great guy to deal with and his instruments are amazing.

It is obvious that you have never dealt with Mike Tobias. Those who have know what I'm talking about. Hey why not start a new thread on your favorite merchant?

I dig the fact that guys like Roger and Mike both will answer their own phones. You really get a good feeling about dropping serious coin when you get great service and support from the top.

Even though I have purchased a new MTD, I never had to deal with Mike directly. I have heard good things though.

My votes would go to Roger for the same reasons other have discussed. Mike Lull is also at the top of my list. Like Roger, he will answer his own phone or give you a call back if you have a question on something. He is ALWAYS willing to help out, if he can. That is what will bring the customers back to these guys!
