Club Sadowsky!!!

jokerjkny, I hear you about the possible counterproductiveness of swapping the pre on such a high-end instrument. The thing is I really do like the instrument, and I keep wondering if a pre that suits me more would take the bass to a whole new level for me.

yea,

if anything, even w/o the preamp, i'd still love my sadowsky thx to its fit, finish, and above all, feel.

i guess just keep the preamp on hand, especially when you are ready to sell it to one of us. :p

I have had a bunch of Sadwowskys and loved them all...I recommend you try an outboard pre and run the Sad Passive....The Aguialr Tone Hammer comes to mind since you want a Mid band....Good Luck!

They go for about $25 used, but I'll double that because I'm a nice guy and all;)

I dunno, new they are about $200.
Used???? $100-ish I guess??
I never saw one used out of a bass before to be honest.
I'll search and see what the average price they sell for used.

One of the other guys may know.

Getting the humcancelling pickups in the 70's location. The neck will sport an Ebony lined fretboard, no dots. Also, they are shaping the profile of the neck to match my 1988 Sadowsky, which is a bit thinner then the new ones.

pLEASE ...BEFORE YOU WOULD EVEN THINK OF SWAPPING....
anything new takes getting used to. Start over from scratch. reset your amps flat. Now...start by setting your pickup height. get the relationship of the 2 pickups correct to best suit your style. Dont be afraid to try many different settings. Ive actually had some neck pickups almost flush with the body, yet still got a good full tone from it. On my NYC 5...the front pickup is pretty low..it can be a little too hot.(and adding bass made it to over the top.) I like a good , solid note with no buzz and the B and E to be very clear, even and full. once I got this set correctly, adding just a touch of eq on the bass, it came alive. This bass is different from others youve tried. Its really about rethinking your approach. I assure you....if you do this...you will get what your looking for. Be patient. it may take time, but the rewards will be unreal.
