Club Sadowsky!!!

I have tried the Delano MM style (big pole) P pickup, but not in a Sadowsky. I remember liking the pickups, but not the aesthetics of that bass. I forgot about that one, was a modded Fndr, with a P-retro pre, that gave it a very big sound. A great rock P. Doesn't sound like that's exactly what you're after.

Thanks. Yup, if I wanted a P I would either just go with a Sadowsky PJ or get one of the Custom Shop 59 jobs; and be perfectly happy.

The thing about the J is there are so many different flavors. Even after all these years, I just keep discovering new yin yang there. Those single slug pups seem to me much more focused than the standard dual slugs. With the original Fender preamp, it wasn't a particularly great thing. With Roger's preamp, it's like peas and carrots. The added focus with his boost points just gives all kinds of tonal palette.

But I dunno if any of you remember me saying way back when that I wished Sadowsky 5s had larger barrels on the tuners. Now that I've seen the new ones, I know that if I could justify what I imagine would be a hefty price, I'd send mine in to get the new tuners put on. I like the look that much better.

Nice! That looks like a great bass. But, I'm confused (as always). Going by the hold down on the headstock, that appears to be a recent bass. What are you referring to by the tuners? Did the NYC shop JUST change those?

Does anyone else find that the input jacks (the "screw" types on the current Sadowskys) come loose easily? I tightened up the jack on my year-and-a-half old Sadowsky not very long ago and already it's loose again. Also, the Sadowsky I just received a couple of weeks ago had a loose jack when it arrived that I had to tighten up.

I prefer the old football style plate .. Its easier to fix when on a gig in an emergency than the newer type.. But i also like the old necks without the graphite bars in them :oops::)....

I just did a comparison of my Ash/Maple Metro PJ4, Alder/Braz NYC PJ5, and my Don Grosh Alder/Braz PJ4. I soloed the P in each, in passive setting. Found that I prefer the P in the Metro! Who woulda thunk? The P in the NYC PJ5 is boomy and I have found it very difficult to record without that boomy tone. The P in the Metro PJ4 is nice and full, not too round, tight, and precise and it can be dialed in exactly where I want it to be with the tone control.. The Grosh PJ4 is full and round, more Fendery in tone and it has a Lindy Fralin P. It also has no tone control. It is set in stone.

And this is weird but I had no idea this was being discussed currently. I just wanted to hear each one cause I am slightly depressed over the PJ5 after comparing all 3.

Who has changed out their P in the PJ5? To what?

Looks like you have nordstrands in your pj5. I would suggest tracking down a set of duncans of you are not digging the tone. Also make sure the strings and setup match your metro.

Yeah, I love Sadowsky's, but the formula for body styles is generally pretty conservative - which is fine by me as a 'Fender guy'. But that axe combines just the right touch of flair: coral red body, P/J config, Hipshot D-tuner, 24 frets... wow.

Well done, my man. Well done.

(The fact that it's a Sadowsky means that playability and killer tone are a given, in my book.)
