Club Sadowsky!!!

The one I have on order is a Metro, so it's the standard package - single coil J/J, etc. Color is black (still debating the pickguard selection), ash body, maple fretboard. To say that I'm anxious for it is a bit of an understatement.

To tell you the truth, I'm taking a bit of a chance on it as I have never played the 5-24. I would not do that with other manufacturers / builders, but I consider the risk to be limited in this case. How do you like yours, aside from the B-string?

I've only had it a couple of days and have yet to gig with it. But I've been playing it a lot in the living room since receiving it and I love it. I never had any interest in anything other than the Standards until I tried a couple of the 5-24s recently. Very articulate sounding basses.

I am looking for a Duncan P Pickup for my PJ5. Roger doesn't have one. Any suggestions?

Duncan custom shop will make pretty much anything you want, its expensive though.

LULL has duncan P5 pickups at about $175.. I bought a few from him a couple of years ago..
I know a builder that is making his own P5 pickups now.. They sound just like my 64P bass but in a 5 string config... its the shazizzle

Call to all 'Sadowsky owners who also sling 6-string basses'.

Is there anything that comes close to the 'thick in the mix on every single note' effect I get from my Sadowsky basses in a 6 string format? Thus far I've explored MTD (too many including one FS now), FBass (close), Modulus, Warwick, Yamaha (Patitucci) and countless others. I'm afraid the answer rhymes with 'schmo-dera', in which case I'm in trouble. Every one of those basses is incredible, until I pick up my Sadowsky on that same gig and the band's heads snap my way in surprise. Followed by endless pestering to play 'the Sadowsky' and/or 'Skadooski' (seriously) or 'that Fender'.

You seem to have tried everything except what makes the most sense.

Seriously tho, you need to stick with the "Fendery" format for bodies and woods, go to any builder who makes great basses in that style and in a 6 string version (I know they're out there... LEJ?, maybe Sandberg?, Carey?, Xotic?, etc), and then have them install the Sadowsky preamp in the bass. That's as close as it's possible to come IMHO.

IMO if you want that sadowsky sorta tone you wi l not get that in a Fodera, or Nord.. Ive tried....
An F bass will get you close but a Vallenti will get you closer.. IMO
I think the Valenti basses are about as close to sadowsky as you can get

If I wanted the sound of a Sadowsky in a 6 I'd choose a 6 I otherwise liked and drop in a Sadowsky preamp.

Forgot to add that I have had a low-end jazz six. Which was close. The Xotic stuff's on my radar. I should also add I'm interested in a bass they can do what I ask as a complete package and not necessarily adding Rogers pre to it. That or maybe somebody has that one off Sadowsky six string that popped up a few years back and will just sell it to me!

I've done that to an MTD and a Warwick and it didn't quite get there. That extra bit of magic that Roger has in his build and woods and pickups might be what's missing. Still curious if anyone else has a six string that they can pull out on a gig where they're also using a Sadowsky and which satisfies them just as well on the bandstand. I use my PJ5 with flats and modern fretless 5 w/rounds and though they're obviously very different they're still variations on the same basic recipe IME as far as sitting in the mix/pleasing the bandmates.

true, but the question is how do you get as close as you can if a genuine Sadowsky is not an option. Fair question, I think some good responses have been provided.

Thats true.. the reason i thought or valenti is that valenti uses similar vendors and similar if not the same raw materials... he worked for sadowsky too... Shapes and neck feel are nearly the same. I dont know how that would roll out into a 6 string though
