Club Sadowsky!!!

I am looking for some feedback, I am looking to replace the pick ups on my 5-24. I hear a lot of complement in the Nordstrand big singles, I want to get some feed backs if anyone has this pick ups installed in their 5-24.

Curious to know why you want to replace them. I only ask because I don't particularly like the sound of mine at home in my practice setup (stock Sadowsky modern pickups) but they sound really good live at a gig. I'm oversimplifying it, I know.

Its all about the equipment. I have similar issue. I love how it sounds at home but not so much at church, this is a cab and amp issue not the bass. I love how this bass sounds. I heard some Sadowsky players change to the big singles so I just want to know how much different is the sounds

Any comparisons of the stainless black and blue labels to other strings I may have tried (various DR, Dunlop, D'Addario, and Rotos)?

I could be wrong, but I think the stainless black and blues haver more mids than the DR high beams, which are very mid cut.

I currently have Big Singles in my NYC Modern 24. I'm sorry I don't have any clips but I do have some old clips someone sent me of a 5-24 with Big Splits. PM me if you want them. As far as the Big Singles, (that is what was ordered in the build) they sound similar to the stock Sadowsky pick ups just from the placement alone. I replaced them after I bought it with stock Sadowsky's, and played it that way for years, so I do have a good point of reference. The Big Singles don't have the same sparkle up high as the stock PU's, but they share a lot of the same tonal characteristics. Also being single coils, they are susceptible to hum , but with that said, it is ever so slight. Just favoring one pick up over the other by as little as 5% gets you the flavor you seek with almost zero hum. (impressive!) The stock PU's cut like a SOB through a mix, the Big Singles on the other hand charge like a pit bull, and smash right through it! Very aggressive tone, but they sound so good!

Awesome feedback. I do really appreciate it. I am keeping the stock Sadowsky Soap bars

Regards the strap lock, I had the shop built all my NYCs with recessed strap lock. Love how secure and the clean look.
But one important thing is that you have to remember bring your strap.

Nice look! I think I'm going to change my dual design buttons to the recessed (flush mount) buttons. I'll learn on a cheap bass first before I touch my Sadowskys.
Has anyone out there installed themselves? What tools/techniques did you use?

Would the bass have more neck dive with the flush mount?

Been thinking about a fretless. Not sure if I want to go as expensive as an NYC on it though. Would picking up a Morado board Metro and having the frets pulled, some maple strips put in the fret slots, and getting it set up properly be a sensible alternative? Not sure who is reputable for that type of work. I'd have to send it to someone.

you can find a used fretless to test the waters, and they are always out there because people like you try them, and eventually flip them.
it's your money, but I'd do that long before I would ever consider de-fretting a bass. Because if you don't like it, you'll never get value out of that effort.

There's a used Sadowsky fretless NYC in the TB classifieds right now. Not mine, but would probably be a good thing to check out.

Generally if I buy something I hang onto it whether I use it regularly or not so I'm not too worried about it that way. I'm more concerned as far as who to go to and how much it would cost. I would want the work to be on par quality wise. I really would feel like I wasted my money if it didn't turn out nice.
