The 2014 P/J I bought from TBer @ERock_10 (one righteous dude) arrived today. I am utterly blown away by how this bass plays, sounds and looks. I have to leave with my wife and kids for an extended family Christmas party in a half hour. I don't want to go. Thinking of faking an illness so I can stay home with this thing.

I have a matching P5 in CAR (below) so of course I love that config, but the chevron/angel step quilt on your J4 is through the roof!!! drool Sweet board, too.

I tend towards the painted basses; but, I have to say that flame/quilt top is maybe the most wicked figured maple I've ever seen. But, what is the deal with the 5 knobs. I don't ever recall a Sadowsky with 5 knobs. Separate bass and treble boost knobs, I assume? Never seen that.
This little hot rod just fell into my lap. Timing is just a coincidence, but this sure is making for a fun christmas 
The small light body, 1 3/4 nut, KILLER tone, ultra even resonant response. I think the 24 fret sadowskys have a little different vibe than the 21s no matter what pickups they have. And this is the first bass Ive had with the latest HC pickups. I had an RV5 that I put area-js in that sounded good, but this is just fantastic. Loving it!

The new HCs are great. They need a little bass boost to sound perfect. Luckily the bass has one of those and it sounds amazing With the old HCs I could not really use the EQ because they were already really bassy. All my other sadowskys have the old duncan made singles.

Funny you noticed! So many don't see all the custom features of this bass. I built it when I worked at Sadowsky back in 2001. It has a quilt top that looks like moving ocean waves and a flame fingerboard. The body is ash and I beveled the edges to 1/2 inch radius, similar to what you would see on a '70's era J bass. It is as far as I know the first 4 string with no neck plate in the back - just 4 bolts like you see on the 5 string Sadowsky basses and it is probably the oldest Sadowsky with a spoke wheel truss rod adjustment. It has a BadAss II bridge, Seymor Duncan Antiquity II single coils and as you noted - Vol. Vol. Tone. Treble. Bass know layout. There are Mother of pearl position markers on the neck with matching control knobs, custom tuner set up with gold tuners and black bushings and a custom Will Lee D-tuner. Recessed strap buttons and the headstock is signed by Will Lee, Marcus Miller, John Patitucci, Michael Rhodes, Roger Sadowsky, Oscar Cartaya, Nathan East and a bunch of other cool bass bros. Sounds huge and is my homie! A truly unique Sadowsky bass.

Just came from Chez Sadowsky. Oh dear....
First, the staff is everything and then some. It's clear that the CS reputation is well-deserved and it comes naturally to them. They took me back to the shop side at 4:45pm to see some of the other necks they have as I was heavily interested in the NYC skyline neck. It looks obscene in person. Only word I can think of. The detail is so precise that you could literally call out buildings and addresses if you're from these parts. Everyone said hello, shook my hand and the shop dogs were eager to play catch. Big chapeau to Dan and colleagues for being so kind. Roger was simple and gracious; my favorite kind of guy.
Second, the basses. Not much to say that is new, and that is a compliment. Got to demo a WL metro, regular metro and NYC vintage. The weights are fantastic. The sounds, well the descriptions match what you hear. I just picked up an outboard pre for my MIA P and my drummer sat up immediately and said "WOW". Now it's at your fingertips. The WL pre is much nicer than I anticipated and I gravitated towards that immediately. It was a black cherry metallic and looked as good as it sounded. This sounds bland, but I now want that sound. Badly. I have a Lakland 55-94 that is days from delivery. As much as I want that bass, I want a Sadowsky 4. Now.
While the NYC bass absolutely disappeared on my shoulder, the metros were nothing to sneeze at. Biggest struggle was using the D-tuner and the fret shift as I'm used to a 5. But the weight thing is no joke; these basses are fantastic in the girth department.
Long story short, there is an awesome WL-Metro that may have my name all over it. I need to talk to the Mrs. mañana. And sell some stuff on sl-E-z-bay.

First thing I did was comb the classifieds. I have this problem of liking distinct things. I figured I would order a trans-green, quilted NYC-4 when I turned 50 and be done as I fell in love with the original Clapton custom strat in 7-Up green that my college guitarist had. Awesome color! Then the metallic black cherry WL came into my hands. Great color. Combed the classifieds again, and until a metallic black cherry or quilted trans green or red shows up, I'm officially smitten.
