Yeah, I should investigate the obvious things! Haha, sometimes we get lost in the minutia and ignore it.

I do however recall someone saying 66 p stock pups have high output, and, in order to allow for more effective tone shaping, the passive output of sadowsky pups is relatively low gain

The only difference between onboard an outboard is the cable being before the preamp and an extra volume control. The volume on the bass and the one on the pedal do the same thing, with a cable between them adding some RLC effects. The pedal will not have that "Look at me I'm ACTIVE" openness of the onboard due to the RLC. But the EQ sounds the same.

The "boost" of the preamp comes from the treble and bass controls while the volume knob just attenuates the signal from your instrument.

So, if you've got a passive bass, you likely want the volume all the way on. However, if you've got a hot bass or have to use one that is hot due to an onboard pre, you can turn the volume down so that the signal doesn't distort.

Once you've got the volume/level worked out so that it's not distorting, set the tone and bass knobs all the way off—which is the flat setting—and then adjust up from there to taste.

One other question I can't seem to find an answer for either in the manual or by searching relates to the DI. What is the XLR sending; is it pre or post the treble and bass gain controls when the preamp is engaged?

I will double check but pretty sure xlr sends the signal post eq when engaged.

I think most of the questions above have been accurately answered. Regarding the discussion (BassNYC) that the settings on the pedal do not mirror the settings on the onboard preamp, this was due to the fact that we previously were unable to obtain potentiometers for the pedal that have the same taper as our onboard pots. So 3 o'clock on the treble or bass on the pedal, would not be the same amount of boost as 3 o'clock on the onboard pots. We have now sourced pots for the pedal that are as close as possible to our onboard pots. This does NOT mean you cannot duplicate the same sound with the pedal as the onboard....however you need to use your ears, rather than an arbitrary point on the dial.

Foolishly sold it a year ago and now it's back!!
I actually bought a replacement a week before, trans blue, but will pass that on to another member here shortly.

White one is definitely the best 4 string bass I ever played!!

So close to joining the Sadowsky family now...the 9-month wait has been, well...too long! I'm hearing my NYC Vintage 5-24 PJ alder/maple (gloss black/bwb--light flats) should be completed at the end of the month, via BSD...

How does Roger normally set the string height? (I have a fairly light string attack, and usually prefer low-action setups...)
