Club Sadowsky!!!

Yep!! The G.A.S. was bad, let me tell you!! I had a few basses for sale or trade for one, but nothing happened until I placed a Ken Smith bass up for sale and it sold within a few days, which left me with enough cash for a Demeter VT-400d bass amp and the Sadowsky. Now I can see first hand what all the fuss is about!!

Well, I finished cleaning her up and installing fresh new Sadowsky strings. Now to see what adjustments I need to make.

Edit: What color strap to get for this bass? Yuck to my current Black and Brown ones. Shoot!

Nice looking bass, to be sure. I thought about that one, even emailed them about it w/ a question (no response) but since I could not check it out in person, I hesitated to pursue it further. I'd seen it on Reverb within minutes of it getting posted. Pretty much everything I'd want in a Sadowsky 5. I have a 4-string MS4 (since Feb.) and love it, enough that I want to get as close as possible to it, in a five. Enjoy!

For those of you who are regular Sadowsky session guys...

I'm finding that the NYC in passive mode directly to an Avalon U5 gives me pretty much everything I need to work with for a solid mix, while active mode can quickly get rather boisterous. At the same time, I prefer the active circuit for live applications.

Which do you tend to prefer in recording settings?

I record either passive or active. Depends on what I'm working on.

I don't think I ever used passive mode in any recordings or live. The active tone just sounds so good!

Question for Will Lee model players (especially 5 stringers):

How useful, to you, is the mid-boost (and controls w/in the cavity to select the mid frequency and Q control)? Do you use it, and when? What kind of cavity settings do you use? Is it worth the extra $ for this feature?

Seems like most players who like the WL's like them for the neck/fretboard dimensions and that extra narrowness at the nut. We all have our preferences there, but wondering if/how anyone uses that mid control on the WL's. I have a Metro 4 string that I like quite a lot, and am possibly looking at adding a 5, and wondering if the WL might be something worth paying more for.

Thanks in advance.

The neck was the deal-maker for me, too. The narrow width at the nut suits my hand perfectly, and I like having 22 frets.

I adjusted the trim pots on the mid circuit for just a touch of boost. Use it occasionally when a tune requires a bit more edge.

At the beginning of my 7 day trial of a Sadowsky Jazz with PJ configuration. Surprised to find that it is volume volume vs volume/pan which I have on my other Sad and assumed was on all their basses. It's different but not sure if it makes a difference other than I will have to relearn how to adjust me tone quickly in a live setting. Anyone care to way on the plus and minuses of each?

I would have been surprised at that also. I never liked vol/vol controls. Your post made me look at their in stock page & noticed it doesn't list the controls setup under the description section. I'm sure they can switch it for you if you decide to keep the bass.

On a passive bass I prefer VVT, but with the preamp I drop the volume to compensate for whatever boost I add, so I can use various amounts of scoopy goodness without hitting my comp harder. So I gotta have blend on a sadowsky.

Its also very easy to change that out.

For those of you that have gone through NYC process, what was your update situation/timeline like? Did you have to check in and ask or did you receive updates unsolicited?

It's been a while and I'm dying for some progress pics, but I don't want to come off as pushy or anything. I realize it's also probable that mine is still a ways down the line.

By no means am I irritated or annoyed or whatever, just genuinely curious because I know there's a lot more going on at the shop than just my bass, I don't want to bug Peter or anyone else if there just hasn't been any action on mine.

For reference, I gave my deposit in late December and was told to expect it somewhere in the late September to mid October range. I received pics of the body and neck after Lisa had cut them in the first week of March. Nothing since then. Again (to anyone from the shop who might read this), not upset or anything even close to it, just curious!
