Club Sadowsky!!!

First practice with my girl ❤️ Absolutely love her!

Beauty.
How do your strings line up with the poles on the P pu?

The P pups on P-basses always seem to be like this I seem to recall. NO problem with the audio. The relatively wide angle lens on the camera gives a minimally wider string spacing on the photo but it's really close representation.
What is your experience with this issue?
The pickup ht. adjustment is what will regulate the tone & volume.

Yeah. Mine’s about the same. Not too sure why Sadowsky doesn’t fix it. Even if only cosmetic, it shouldn’t happen on an instrument at this level. I’ve seen many sub-$500 basses where the strings are centered perfectly. I had to raise the treble side to get the G string balanced with the other three. Still love the bass, though.

The pickup pole alignment with the strings on my Fender is the almost same as the Sadowsky. The 2 sections could be spread to achieve alignment.
The pup distance from the bridge is a calculated measurement so you would think the pickup poles were originally placed with that in mind. The only variable seems to be the spread between the 2 sections. Perhaps Roger could chime in on this. It's not gonna change the sound surely , but puzzling just the same.

The J pup E string is a tad off because that end of the pup is somewhat higher. I set string ht. in an evenly descending manner E to G, not relative to the fretboard radius. Just a quirk of my experience & left hand on a P neck (1-3/4" nut). I am left handed / play right handed so my fretboard hand technique may be involved in this unusual setting. The P pup pole alignment is effected a bit as well due to this string set.

My MV5-PJ doesn’t seem to have issues with pickup alignment. Also, my pole pieces on the P pickup are offset - must’ve been a different design.

I'd be surprised if marginally off centre pole pieces make a noticeable difference to the sound in a studio. . . . and certainly not when you're standing next to a drummer in full flight.
We all agree on that but it still doesn't address the question of the design vs installation on a P4. It's quite obvious that the string was meant to be centred between the 2 poles. OR is it? Why IS there a double pole rather than only one?
Regardless, even Fender isn't consistent with the alignment.

I understand that the non-centering is a visual annoyance to some, but... I am not an engineer, but essentially the polepieces work in concert. There are gaps between them, but the magnetic fields overlap. This is why [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] that works with 4, 5, and 6-string basses. It simply doesn't matter how the strings align with the individual polepieces. As long as they vibrate within the combined field, all is well.
