Is that a trick of the light, or did you do some sanding on the back of the neck? If so, I thoroughly approve.
Not sanding is fine too, of course. I only sanded my 2005 P5 after the finish started wearing away naturally. I've left my 2010 alone, but now the back of the neck has become glossy below the 12th fret, so I'm thinking of sanding (or at least satinizing with scotchbrite).
Gorgeous ax! What p/u did you spec for the bridge location? Is it a humbucker?
I got this from the stock page so I didn't spec it but it's the Sadowsky Soapbar. Sounds a bit thicker than the humcancelling J would in that position.

to get you up to speed...I broke my wrist (put my left hand out/back to break my fall and broke my wrist) on January 18th. OMG! Yeah. I am not healing well. The Doc has requested a second surgery and I am waiting for approval....going to remove the Titanium plate and screws and force stretch my wrist back and forth. OUCH!
Okay...back to regular programming!!
Likewise, Blair. I still remember when you first got your PJ and the amazing photos that you had, including some great shots with Roger himself. Still digging the Chromes? My PJ needs a new set and I can't wait to get the new Sadowsky flats. You know that I have been a fan of his old flats forever and I can't imagine what could be improved but I'm sure Roger took them to a new level. Problem is I don't sem to find a shop that stocks them anywhere in Europe.

Another Mr P-Bass - good to hear from you pal ! I thought you were already aware of the work I did on the neck. It was posted on the now gone Sadowsky Forum. I recall you saying back then that you weren't all that interested in a 10,000 step process to sand it off

I've searched my records without success. Someone else recommended them to me awhile back, & since I am a geriatric, I forgot.
They came stock on an electric upright *stick* bass I recall.Be well

I put my old *well broken in* Chromes back on. Have often thought of giving a shot to the low tension Thomastik Jazz set. (Carol Kaye used them with her pick playing) I have a somewhat percussive finger style to get the flats to pop the notes a bit more & as a result the notes have a tendency to sometimes be on the front end of the beat, which can be undesirable. The *delay* of the low tension may have an upside but , I HATE spaghetti on the fretboard.
Never say never I guess.Let us know when you have tried the new Sad Flats.

(USE HEADPHONES - I've got my Macbook Pro EQ'd for it but the bass / flats really sound best strapped to your ears) If I could do it all again, I'd mic my Mesa Boogie scout combo & mix the speaker movement in with the direct. I know you liked to add to your *wall* (now at home i guess) so for your records :
Hope your wrist healing develops quickly. Better that than break the fall with your face I guess. A friend of mine did that while slipping on winter ice with his hands in his jacket pockets while descending concrete stairs. Whoops.

Lots of beautiful P basses here today! I've never owned a P bass. My next bass will likely be a Verdine White model Sadowsky, though. I do like the sound and look of P's.

I really love the bareback neck on my Sadowsky and even after all these years it looks beautiful; not too dirty or dark and with a beautiful hue.
My kids are all playing music: Piano, guitar, double bass, electric bass, percussion/drums,... we'll talk about it out of here. Bear hug, Blair.

. Have a view of "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" DVD (especially the included *jam sessions*), if you would like to check out a master of P-Bass tone". Bob Babbitt - R.I.P.- , is a flats player who used a sponge mute under the strings, typical, in many cases, to the times, for getting the bass to *sit* in those Motown records.There's a story told about James Jamerson, the revered Motown bassist, who came into a recording session so drunk one time that they had to lay him down on the floor so he could do his work. How's that for a respect for a first call bassist. These guys loved their old dirty flats in the mix. Just OLD is good enough for me. I prefer cleaning with rubbing alcohol.
