Same here. I really dig the Newsted sound and was excited to see Jason fronting a band, but from what I understood they lost their management when Florida Georgia Line hit it big (I guess they were on the same management?). I could understand not wanting to sink his own money into it with the current landscape of payouts via streaming, album sales, touring costs, etc.

From what I’ve read he’s now an avid painter (abstract artist) and has a band that plays around his area, so it seems he’s happy with what he’s got on his plate. Hopefully he takes back to the stage with another larger, touring group soon!

This week, I did my refinishing of the back of the neck on my Satin J bass (with Tru-Oil and Gunstock Wax). It's the second neck I have refinished. I put a lot of time into sanding, did three coats of oil (with a day of dry time each), and one coat of wax. It was a 4 day project and turned out really nice. I have always been a fan of oil & wax on the neck. The Sadowsky nitro is nice too when it's new, and I know it ages differently for different players, but for me it eventually buffed to a high gloss that I don't like, especially in high humidity. Just personal preference.

We had two outdoor gigs this weekend, and the Satin played like a dream. Here is a photo from Friday night, a flatbed trailer stage gig at an outdoor festival:

This bass is just amazing. Its light weight has helped my back problems and literally saved my playing career. It sounds wonderful, and the Satin finish gets a lot of attention, questions, compliments, etc. on gigs. I only wish I'd have found it about 25 years ago.

I purchased my Satin 4-string J bass off of the website a few months ago, and it is the best bass ever and the best music purchase ever. Mine is Dark Lake Placid Blue, but I think I like that Ocean Blue color on yours even better. You will love the light weight. Mine is 7.63 lbs and sounds like unicorns singing harmony. It would be my #1 no matter what color it was. Congratulations!

That's too funny. After seeing the bass you bought in the sold instrument area, I ordered one just like it in the Dark Lake Placid, but when this one hit the website on Friday, I called Peter and switched to this one. Great minds think alike. I can't wait to meet the unicorns singing in harmony.

Speaking of Sadowsky necks, I took a different route with my 2005 NYC P5. The nitro was wearing off of the treble side of the neck, so I took some 300 grit sandpaper to the back of the neck (most of it). This was largely inspired by the quote from Roger on the old Sadowsky website: that vintage Fender necks felt great because the nitro would wear away from frequent playing. For awhile I had a super-mojo'd 1964 Fender P-bass that had this exact kind of neck: the maple back was dark grungy gray, very little nitro left.

Anyway, this is from Saturday:

Yeah, I've mentioned this before, but the neck just keeps playin' better and better so I'm sayin' it again. :bassist:

It's the battery pack for my FretFX LED strip. I play a lot of gigs in dark, dingy bars with weak or nonexistent stage lighting -- and yeah, I'm guilty of having to look down at my neck sometimes. The FretFX strip is tricky to install, but I've had it on that bass for over six years now so I have to give it a thumbs-up. I've added them to a couple of other basses as well.

Edit: here's a pic. The lights are a LOT brighter than this with a fresh battery (single CR2032).

Still waiting on my Satin 5.. I will hit the 8 month mark this Friday, was give an estimate of six when I ordered. Peter has been totally killer with my questions about progress however.

I also have a Verdine 5 in Olive Green/Morado on order. He said six on that one too but I'm not gonna hold him to it, lol...
