Not sure which one was referred to, but this is the one I typically use to demo my Sadowsky "MM5":

Interesting that you pick Slither to show off your 5. That is one of the few tunes that to me just phrases SO much better with the drop D string. As you show, it can be played on the 5; which you perform to perfection; but the phrasing just sounds a bit different. I know, splitting hairs.

Thanks! I picked that video because it shows off the tone of the bass. I fully acknowledge that Slither is best played on drop-tuned four, and also that the awkwardness of playing it on 5 is apparent at various places in my performance. But I never switch basses mid-set... and I no longer own any four-strings anyway.

Oh, no. Your performance was outstanding. That’s about what you can do with it on the 5. Doesn’t get much better than that.

When Slither hit the scene, I was mainly gigging an SR5. I spent at least a year and a half convincing myself that it was just fine on the 5. But, once I started playing it on the drop D, the phrasing just fell in place. The audience won’t notice it, and it’s just a cover anyhow. But, that’s the kind of thing we notice.

back to the reason why it was the first song I learned to play, I could learn it quickly because the main riff was pretty much on one string, that is, as long as it was a D-tuned 4.

Sure, I considered that briefly. But the thought of detuning low E made remember how easy that was using the Hipshot D-Tuners/Bass Xtenders I had on my fours: just took a quick flick of a switch. So I decided "naaaah, I'll just man up and use the low B".

Hi all.
I’m in the process of buying my first Sadowsky. It’s a 2006 Metro MV5-PJ (so keen). Would this bass have the single-coil or humbucking J pickup in the bridge? Also, I understand they didn’t start adding the VTC to Metro basses until after 2006 so i would need to buy a retrofit to add it to my bass. They’re currently listed as out-of-stock on the Sadowsky website. Any ideas of when they’ll be back in stock? I emailed Carmine on Wednesday (Australian time) but have not heard anything back.

Congrats! I will make the guess that the J is hum canceling, since it is a P/J bass. I could be wrong, but almost every P/j I have played has that or else the noise would be really bad.

Sorry if this has been posted but if the alder/morado verdine white i have coming sounds like this guys metro p/j, i will be rather happy. Great looking instrument and it sounds real warm and punchy, which is what i like.

I’ve had a NYC p/j for a few months now. I’ve been using mostly just the P pu, but recently dialed it to 50/50. It sounds a little scooped solo, but, with the band...I flipped out a little at how good it sounds. I was actually able to turn down a bit because of the added presence.

Playability and tone are just great all up and down and across the entire neck. I’m really glad they did a custom 1 5/8 nut, as it is just perfect for me. I have some other really nice basses that just can’t seem to make it out of their cases anymore.

Lisa and the crew up there are absolutely tops.

I’ve been super impressed with Sadowsky as well; from the time I first contacted Peter to throw some ideas back and forth to when I went to the shop to spec out my custom NYC with Lisa, I was absolutely blown away by how friendly, excited and incredibly devoted to their craft that they all are. Any chance of a photo of this bass?

Vintage J, 5-string, 20 frets (I think), ebony fretboard and black hardware. To be completely honest, I've kind of forgotten a lot of what we spec'd out and would have to find my order sheet to make sure...I figured it was best to just get busy with other things to forget about the wait rather than letting the anticipation consume me from start to finish.

Are numbers a thing in this club, or do we just collectively bask in the excellence of these fine basses?

My first Sadowsky was one of the first Metros that arrived in Europe and it was exactly like yours. Great classic combo.
