I just tried passive (slipped my mind, thank you!), the buzz is not there and the bass sounds killer. Active mode, we have the buzz. Change in direction does nothing. I've tried other basses, cables, different outlets, different head - same result. There is a buzz in active mode. My other Satins do not have it.

interesting. the preamp could be acting like an antennae, especially if you're saying you notice it in active mode on other basses. odd that your satin doesn't seem to have it? are you sure you ran in active with vtc turned up all the way? might want to double fact check on that. also, if the satin has different pickups, that also changes the game some. it'd also be interesting to know if it happens in all locations (like other people's houses, studio, etc.).

Sorry if I wasn't clear, it only happened in this particular bass in active mode. My Satin Modern 5 and JJ5 with single coils are both silent with pickups centered. Not so on the Verdine in active mode. Passive she's fine.

Ok, so we're dealing with different pickups. I sorta' doubt a wiring issue, but it's something to check I suppose. Otherwise, it might just be that that particular configuration is susceptible to something. I've definitely had that issue with various brands and quality level of instruments. Rarely if ever affects a gig, but I can see how it'd be a bit bothersome... especially on a new bass you're excited about.

Its been silent since I got it back in October. I play it nearly daily, have gigged it many times and this is the first time i've encountered this.

EDIT: The bass may have had this for a while. I use this bass for reggae and the VTC is nearly always rolled off about 75%. I had it rolled up today while testing the bass on some new material I was sent. In doing so, that's when I discovered the buzz on the Verdine. I may have never noticed as its nearly gone once you dip below about 30% on the VTC.

I does not go away if i touch the strings or bridge. It gets louder as you pan to the J pup, quieter as you pan to the P pickup until you get to the end of the rotation and then it perks up again.

Try a new battery if you haven't done so yet. It's an easy thing to rule out if it doesn't help. I've had a weak battery cause some buzz, wasn't extreme but it went away in passive mode so I tried changing it and it worked for that situation.

PM me a pic of the control cavity with a separate photo of the blend pot connections. Also, make sure that the blend pot grounds did not come out of the screw connects.

Well, well, well... I unplugged everything and ran a couple of errands. Came back and fired the rig back up - now I can't replicate the buzz. The Verdine sounds fantastic. Like it should, did and always has.

Completely baffled. Maybe @TolerancEJ was right about the surveillance.

And just FYI to all, Lisa's middle name is Ellis and she has been going by Ellis outside of work for a decade. She's going by Ellis at work now as well, so that's why I used Ellis/Lisa above.

Partly a Sadowsky question . . .
My Sadowsky J basses pan between pickups by turning the pan knob clockwise to focus on the bridge pickup.
Makes perfect sense to me although one of my other basses pans in the opposite direction.
Question is . . . how do I change the other bass to pan in the same direction as the Sadowskys?
I'm no electrician or luthier so is there a wiring diagram or something to show how to pan reverse direction?

The reasoning is that the blend knob acts like a tone knob. Turn it clockwise for a more treble focused sound, counterclockwise for more bass.

If you can solder, all you have to do on your other basses is switch the white “hot” leads on the center lugs of your blend pot. (edit: this should work on MOST other blend pots... obviously YMMV depending on the blend pot and that manufacturer's wiring plan).
