I'm with you, my first bass was red and wasn't my choice. I can't complain, I won it in a drawing at Sam Ash but with some stage lighting it looked more hot pink. Everytime I heard someone say you play a pink bass, as a teenager I'd always argue back that it was red. Never thought of owning a red bass ever since although dark cherry metallic looks awesome in pics, I'd have to see it in person.

My first bass was CAR with a white guard. Kalamazoo KB1. More recently, I had a gorgeous Black Cherry Metallic WL5, which is nothing like CAR, but still awesome.
I’ve always thought that if I were lucky enough to work one of those gigs at Disney World, I’d def go for CAR with the white guard.

It’s a good-looking instrument for sure, just not a color I’d ever own. If I did somehow end up with a red bass, even a Sadowsky as pretty as that, I’d have to get it refinished.
Speaking of, anyone ever get their Sadowsky refinished? There’s a used NYC I’m looking at and I’m just wondering what a professional refinish requires and costs.

Awesome examples - both! While these being beautiful basses - red and I get along like oil and water. The last red item of clothing I wore was in 3rd grade. If I posted the pic you would probably understand my aversion to anything red, but we will leave that alone for now.
I've never cared for black basses, but somehow I've ended up with a bunch of them, including my Metro MS4.

I’ve had Black and Red Sadowsky basses over the years. I love my Satin Modern 4!

Here is my first Sadowsky I purchased!
I have, Pat Wilkins refinished an NYC Modern 5 I used to own. He did an awesome job, I was very pleased with the quality of his work...and the price and the turnaround time. Was a great overall experience.
I posted a a few before & after pics in this Wilkins Appreciation thread.

Bass still plays beautifully and I can't decommission it long enough to put Sad Flats on it. On the other hand the T-Shirt are great!
Still a ways out though, so I try not to think about it...”hourly” anymore!
