My NYC is 7.5 lbs. I've also had a Metro that weighed just over 9.5 lbs. To me this is a huge difference.
I think that may be an extreme example. From my experience..most of the NYC basses are more around the 8 pound range and the Metros more in the 9 pound range. Is that still a pretty big difference..yes it is. You really have to look at what is important to you. I have played identical(wood, finish, pickups, etc) Metros and NYCs back to back. Sound wise, the difference was definitely there but it was minimal, to my ears. Feel, comfort, playability etc. Yes, the NYC was still better. If you are truly on a budget and the extra finish and wood options are not important. The Metro is a great option...especially used.
That said, I own 3 Sadowsky basses...all are NYC.
