the other thing i also like about the SD's is the shielding and grounding is the "best" in my opinion. totally wrapped up in copper foil, makes them the quietest SC's on the market i've ever played. i don't subscribe to the concern about loss of high end, because even if it's measurable, i can't hear it, so it's all about noise reduction for me.

Carey has done more shielding on his pickups at least for Roger than his norm (his norm being properly grounded, but no shielding on the pickup at all... totally relies on route shielding), but still not as much as the SD's. Carey feels the tonal effect is enough that he wants to take a much more conservative approach on pickup shielding.

Nordstrand’s too are fully shielded (incapsulated) in copper foil (like the SD) It’s actually per Roger’s request!

Yes, I agree with Maurillo, I have a set of the Sadowsky Norstrand SC in one of my MV5s. Totally covered in copper and the quietest SCs I've ever heard... even sitting in front of my Mac Pro!
I will say though, they do not sound like my traditional Jazz bass SC.

ever try the SD's? any reason why you didn't just plug directly into the focusrite? and lastly, when did you buy that bass?

Never tried the SDs, I've heard great things about them. Essentially an Antiquity II pickup is that right? I have SD 67/70 singles in my backup souped up Squire 5 and they are great.

Regarding the Focusrite, personally I don't like the sound of the Bass plugged into it directly. There's either too much gain with the instrument setting, or a tone suck with the Pad setting. I find a DI box in front gives a lot more control at the input and gives a better and more even sound.

I bought my Sadowsky Metro UV70 used about 4 years ago and its been my main bass ever since. It came with the SC pickups installed and the HC set in the case. I swapped them back and forth a few times. The HC are great, maybe the best of that type I've played. But the singles are where I'm at more. And they are really really quiet too.

understood, but at least IMHO, when you're trying to do a "test" video, you want it to be as pure as possible so as to not obscure a tonal characteristic that might (or might not) matter to other people. my assumption is that video was for other people to learn from, not for your personal pleasure. i hope that doesn't sound snarky, i really don't mean it that way. just trying to explain my position on it.

I had some Nordy SC's in an older Metro I had previously owned. I'm with @Vic - to my ears they were aggressive in the mids/low mids. Not bad at all - just had a little more bite than I prefer. The SD's in my Satin JJ5 seem a little more balanced and smoother to me. YMMV

Two slightly different but awesome flavors. Can't go wrong with either, really.

Not snarky at all, I fully understand your point. Originally that video was just a bunch of clips for my reference only as I was changing the pickups. That why the top of my head is missing sometimes! But then I thought I’d cut it together and share it.

I have both the Sadowsky SD Singles and Antiquity IIs. The Antiquitys are a bit darker while the Sadowskys have a more open and forward sound. Both are great, but when I have Fenders in the collection I always swap the Antiquitys into them.

Yep, my Metro UV70 5 string has the Nordstrand made singles. Love em! Here’s a video I made comparing the singles and HC.

Hard to tell from just the pic, but when you get it, just move the blend knob left or right from center. If there's a little hum you've got the SC's. None, then you have the HC's. My SC's are more or less quiet, but there is just a touch of the single coil hum.

I found out it is the Hum Cancelling pups. Should sound good running through my Noble.
