Club Sadowsky!!!

Ok, so I got a chance to play a Metro MV-5 today. Natural Finish/Maple FB. This one however did not have the VTC. Even so, I have to say .... I get it!! :eek: What a sweet bass. I don't know why I remember the necks as being a bit chunkier than I like. It felt wonderful. No issues. The Punch with just a touch bass boost was all it needed. I played it through a new GB Shuttle 6.0 with a 210 cabinet. Sounded like a million bucks. It sort of has a modern tone, but when I moved my right hand position around, I could easily alter the tone and get some fat, motown, R&B tones that were deep, full and Fendery. And it was so easy to get a great slap tone, it almost does that itself. I also played a Sadowsky UV Alder/Rosewood 4 and it just didn't have any bite. It was smooth and soulful. Very nice, but it lacked the edge to the tone that I liked so well on the MV5. Is that softer, mellower tone indicative of the Alder/Rosewood? I expected it to have more attitude since it was the UV series with 70's spacing. But it was also a 4 banger.

I liked the MV5 well enough that a Sadowsky is totally on my wish list! If I didn't have two other boutique basses on order already, I might have brought this one home! It was that nice! And man, it was a sweet weight too. Very light.

Dang, Me thinks all you Sadowsky lovers might just be onto something. (rather than "on something") :hiding: ..Then again, ... maybe both? :D

IME the Alder/Rosewood UV's are definitely mellower than an Ash/Maple. My Natural Ash/Maple has all the bite you could ever want with a really nice punch to it as well. I have found that strings tend to make a considerable difference as well. Stainless Strings on Alder/Rosewood will get it brighter and livelier but I don't like them on an Ash/Maple bass.

depends,

i've tried an alder / ebony sadowsky and it was a touch too smooth for me. but it was sweet and smooth in that fat vintage way. but my old alder / brazilian rosewood pj had punch and kick for days. so, its the luck of the draw.

but anything ash in sadowsky land will definitely deliver what you want.

If that question was for me? .... No, I didn't get it Joey. I have two other custom / high-end (read: expensive) basses on order at the moment. Plus, I am very particular about wood grain and the MV5 that I played was a Natural finish and the grain was decent, but I didn't "love it." Lastly, the MV5 I played didn't have a VTC. (and I still loved the sound, so what does that tell you? It was Good!) But I can see where the VTC would yield the greatest versatility. For me, the VTC a 'must-have' feature. I use the Passive Tone control on my other 'active' basses all the time.

But ..... I might just sell off one of my current basses and then see if I can find a Sadowsky MV5 or NYC Ash/Maple JJ5 that speaks to me. It really was THAT nice. :D As I said, I think you Sadowsky lovers might just be onto something here! LOL :hiding:
