Club Sadowsky!!!

I don't see a lot of NYC models with block inlays. Any particular reason for that? Cost? Sound? No Demand?

Because they don't sound as good as the dots.











Seriously though, blocks are not available on NYC models. I have no idea why.

I've seen side dots only and no dots on the fretboard on NYC models.

I played out with my Sadowsky live for the first time tonight (OK, it was an open mic, but it was on a professional stage - the open mic was a "pro jam," by invitation only). Amp was a poweramp of some type with an Ampeg pre, two Fender cabs (both 4X10s, one of them angled). My Vintage 4 just sang. I can't really describe it. And yes, I'm told it cut through the mix.

The more I play my Sadowsky, the more I'm impressed. As as a former naysayer, let's just say I'm a die hard convert. Roger and crew make an incredible instrument.

I find myself reaching for my Sadowsky more than any other bass I own as of late. It is that good and comfortable, and right up there with my Alembics, my Lakland, and Pedulla. Am I ever glad I bought it.

Not fair. I'm waiting for mine, which should be identical except in a five string. Just one question. I've heard from rodger that the UV basses do not get wired Vol/Blend. So how are they wired? Vol/Vol?

Roger was talking about the NYC Ultra Vintage basses (60's style) while the UV Metros are 70's style and wired Vol/Blend.

Since I got my NYC 5's, I've been seriously considering stringing my Modern E to C. I do miss the high C sometimes and the Modern's crisp high end got me thinking that stringing it tenor would work well. However that crispness also makes me wonder if it's better off just strung regular. I am afraid that the C will be overly-bright and zingy.

I, too, am interested in hearing what others have to say about their experiences stringing their Modern tenor. The B does sound awfully good and it's what has kept me from making the change already. With the groups I play in, the low B is much more useful than a high C and that's what it really comes down to. My Modern has this ultra-focused sound on the low strings and it's hard to want to let that go!

Also, many of the suggested parts written for me in two of my groups go below E and I wouldn't really be able to use it in those projects anymore. Still, it's relatively easy to throw on the upper part of a six set and see how it goes! If and when I do that, I'll try and remember to post my findings.

As I've stated elsewhere, I re-strung my Modern E-C and absolutely love it. I'm not exactly 100% sure what it is (e.g. tension, etc.), but the action is razor-thin low now. The bass is absolutely effortless to play. Since Sadowsky doesn't supply a .030 C string, I had to use a D'Addario XL (bought singularly from Juststrings.com) with a set of Sadowsky Bright Nickels to do this. The C-string is a little brighter than the others, but in a musical (non-annoying) way. Chords are great, notes in the lower register are great. It's all good. I highly recommend it.

It always helps that you can also have a bass strung B-G as well. Luckily I also have a killer PJ for this.

3. Do you prefer Vol/Vol or Vol/Balance and do think one sounds better than the other?

I have had both of my NYC's wired vol/vol. I like the fact that it's less loading on the pickups, and though this may just be 'me', but I find that I am able to dial in tones (specifically, those where one pickup is full on, and the other is backed off just enough to take the pickups out of humbucking) on the vol/vol setup that I cannot quite replicate on a vol/blend.

This is very much a personal preference thing, and not an issue of one approach being better than the other.

Here is my Sadowsky. UV 70 Ash/Maple White blocks and bindings and VTC.... it's a monster!

Very hot T-MOST! That is pretty much the bass I've always wanted from Sadowsky. If you ever decided to sell it, shoot me a pm.

BMC, that is a sweet looking bass! I couldn't tell at first if it's natural or a vintage blonde. I think it's natural, but if so, it's a very "light" natural. Either way, it looks great. Perfect match with the fingerboard.
