I put a DR Pure Blues strings on everything I own and they are very close to the feel and sound of the Sadowsky nickel’s.

I’m sold on the Sadowsky nickels, as I have been stocking up on them when I can find them.

DR’s are my standby

I think you will like the Sadowsky Blue Steels. I was always a nickel person until getting acquainted with the Blue Steels. They match up to the Sadowsky very very well. The DR Fat Beams seems to be a good replacement for the Blue Steels as they are not readily available during this transition.

DR Pure Blues, with Sunbeams as a pre-Pure Blues fave, have been my favorite Rounds for like forever. I have had Sadowsky Nickels on a fretted Sadowsky, and prefer the Pure Blues - a little smoother surface, a bit less tension, a little more bloom to the tone. But one might prefer clarity to bloom, want a bit more tension, and not be as surface-fussy as I am! Both are great nickel rounds.

Thanks for that. As it happens Sunbeams 100s have been my go to on all my basses forever, so I will give the pure blues a try. I guess I should stick with 105s on the Will Lee since 100 might be a bit loose on the drop D tuner.

I have a couple of Nickel 45-105 sets here Tim if you want one.

Actually just found a couple of new sets of steels from my last sadowsky that I had long forgotten about, Mark, so might wait and see how they suit me when it arrives. Will message you if I decide to try the nickels. Many thanks mate. Just did a sound check for an outdoor gig with dirty fingers, I had forgotten how horrible that feels:rollno:

Picked up a Sadowsky Metroline (.de) Will Lee 4 recently and I'm really liking it. I'm a big fan of the mid boost. There's a good chance I'll get a NYC WL5 in the not too distant future.

Quick question: With the mid push engaged, I find that I'm using the neck pickup and getting something like a P sound with some J growl blended in. With both pickups, it's J but some P flavor in the mix. Anyone have similar thoughts? I think I've moved almost entirely towards the P territory, so I'm not entirely sure I would have liked the bass without the mid boost.

I have same bass. You can get indeed a pretty good Psound with the midboost on. I use the first setting, 500hz narrow, and the volume trim-pots on the back both at maximum.

It says "Don't use more than one dip switch in the up position". I like both middle dip switches up. I'll have to check the pots, haven't gotten there yet. It's a fun bass, but so far I've only played on JamKaZam and that's not a real test. Can't wait until we get back in person.

The mid boost was one of the key features that caused me to order mine. My main bass is a custom shop p with a j neck and I am hoping that the Will Lee can at least get me close to a p sound. Thanks for the insight. Mine is in the air at the moment:hyper:
