My Ultra Vintage P. 6 years now and the new bass feeling hasn’t worn off.

May I ask what preamp setup is in this bass, if there is one? The top mount input jack and what appear to be standard knobs look like a standard passive precision offering. Maybe I’m not seeing a stack knob?

The only thing that held me back from buying a NYC P-Bass was my impression that Roger wouldn’t build a fully passive bass with no preamp.

I always wondered the same thing .... would Roger build a passive p without the preamp? I also wonder if it would be any cheaper.

I replaced Rogers wonderful preamp with a traditional Fender tone stack. Previously I had a Metro PJ that I was happy using the active preamp. I just prefer a traditional passive preamp and in this bass it just works...for me. I am fully aware that the preamp bypass may have gotten me there too.

Thx - I've been playing some sort of Sadowsky bass since high school, and that was.....many decades ago. I actually prefer a traditional passive setup in any P myself, even though the bypassed active stuff in a Sadowsky is electronically transparent. There are very few builders that seem to consistently build a P style instrument up to Sadowsky standards, hence my longtime interest in one.

I traded the Metro PJ plus cash for the UV P. When it arrived and I played it for the first time I thought to myself, “what have I done?” I was not enchanted! Installing a GZR pickup and the passive tone stack changed that. I didn’t even consider swapping out the guts on the Metro it was that good. Just goes to show how things vary when made out of trees.

Anyone interested in this particular bass will have to talk to my family after I’m gone. I have no bass GAS whatsoever!

The EMG GZR is a sleeper. Amazing pickup with flats or rounds. Once all the dust clears, EMG lore says it's a well-done dupe of a '62 Precision P pickup, except it's completely hum and buzz free. Please forward your immediate family info in a PM. :p

I heard someone playing a p the other day with Geezer pups and it did sound really good. I don't know why I was surprised but I was pretty impressed. I never would have thought to get the Geezers before but if I ever need some replacement p pups I may go for them.

Highly recommended - do a search here on TB. Your screen will blow up, and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

The only cloud in the silver lining is that the pickup shells are a tiny bit bigger than normal Fender specs and may require some sanding/grinding/modification in pickguard routs to fit in some cases. We're talking like less than 1/64" here. I had some P basses that required a little nip and tuck in the pickguard, but they dropped right into my Fender AVRI '62 P with no issue at all. Apparently they drop right in to a Sadowsky UV as well.

I thought the geezers required installing new pots(?). You can drop a set into a Sadowsky P or PJ?
