If you have not done so, try the instrument in a different home or building. This could be an AC Power ground loop somewhere in your home. That would explain why the store/shop thinks its fixed, because their power supply has no ground loop.

Agree emphatically. You ( @projectapollo ) had suggested the same for my German Metroline. I'm no electrician, but this did prove unequivocally that it was NOT the bass. In fairness, my "shed" is a little 10 x 12 nook in the basement with: Two computers, 3 monitors, 1 iPad, 1 wireless printer, my iPhone, the Scarlett DAW, 4 speakers, 2 bass amplifiers, a wireless router, and flourescent lighting. There is a ton of interference type stuff going on and I have no idea from an electrical circuit / ground loop sense what is going on. Even when there is no bass guitar, if I am listening to music through one of the amplifiers (how the Scarlett in/out is set up), the printer and amp can put off a ton of buzz when a wireless signal is sent to the printer.

I couldn't say why only the German metroline buzzes (and not Japanese or NYC), but it is more or less depending on VTC (on) and boost (up), but some days absolutely none at all. I did try the bass elsewhere proving it is dead silent. Which, for me, killed any motivation to try to find the problem in shielding or pre-amp, since it really is no worse than a Fender Jazz without HC pickups.

I also don't want to "fix" my shed as I'm dreading moving all that stuff, but at some point I do need to do new flooring (English bulldog won't quit puking on my carpet! :laugh: ), so perhaps at that point.
 
I'm an nuc engineer, not electrical. Im my discovery, I came to better understand sources of instrument noise/hum. 1) Electro-magnetic fields from near by lighting, etc. This is INDUCED hum that goes away when you turn side to side, getting the magnetic field to stop generating current in the electronics (get parallel to the field, not perpendicular). Builders shield their bass control cavities to help minimize this induced hum, as well. Hum canceling pickups work to cancel out this induced current. The noise is being created inside the instrument, not from a connected power supply. This is the physics of how the power company makes your power. They rotate a large magnet inside a bunch of coiled copper and electrical current is magically produced. Your instrument is a tiny power plant doing the same thing when in an alternating magnetic field. 2) Motor/dimmer noise put into the AC power line by refrigerators, air conditioners, dimmers, iPad chargers (mine creates crazy levels of AC power noise), etc. To control for this, professional installations supply the stage with "tech-power" which is fed to the building from its own transformer connected to the power company separate from the house power transformer, which quickly loads up with noise producing stuff. Don't let folks start plugging motors and dimmers (and iPads!) into such a dedicated tech-power circuit! 3) AC ground loop noise. I think this is your problem as it is in my home. I think this starts with home wiring that is not installed/grounded correctly and small 60 cycle currents circle around in the +/- wiring. They sneak through power wall warts, instrument cables, everything! 4) Instrument grounding. If you touch the strings or bridge and the hum goes away, the instrument parts are properly grounded to itself. Your body is draining the tiny noisy current from the instrument and all the affected parts. If the instrument is not internally grounded, the parts are not electrically connected and touching the strings does not solve the problem.

I had a new (to me) Fender passive P bass that was noisy as heck. I was disappointed. Sent it to the tech who returned it "fixed". Plugged it in at home, same noise, and my set-up is pretty simple. We were both very confused. Researched and learned about ground loops. Took the bass to another building and it was perfectly quiet! I use it at church with tons of lights, radio pack RF signal flying about, AC power running everywhere - perfectly quiet. Bring it home, its a mess. I had a Mesa power amp that exhibited the same issue. I thought it was defective and tried to send it back to Mesa. The Mesa tech told me to try difference AC circuits. Took it to a different house and it was perfect.

Wow, that was a lot of info.. but I'm starting to think you all might be right, It does have a bit of buzz at practice but I doubt the arts centre where I play has zero grounding issues, I'm going to try a few things even so far as taking my laptop and di unit out of the house entirely and playing somewhere outside and remote seeing if there is any difference. I guess it's just I'm used to my Ibanez ATK's quad coil pickup, but the way that is wired is totally different to single coil jazz pickups.. and prob explains why there's no hum from that bass... maybe the grounding issue only affects single coils? I'm sure even noiseless ones would count. I never tested it in-store though when I picked it up because of timing, and originally there was hum and buzz when I dropped it off for repair. so there's always another option of A/B'ing the bass. If another Sadowsky does the same thing, on the same amp, in the same building.. then fine, grounding issues.. otherwise it's specific to this bass only.

First world problems lol

It is... and may not be totally correct.... but I spent so much time trying to sort this issue, trying different things (went to two techs, neither properly diagnosed it), getting bad advice, I thought I'd over share my learnings.
Check the pickup wires don't cross over the preamp. This was definitely one of the issues on my Metroline pj. See before and after image

Friend I would mail you a beer if I could.. pickup wire was resting on one of the preamp terminals, and as soon as I moved it boom problem solved. Now I’ve electric taped the bloody thing in place. Can’t believe the techs at the store didn’t pick up on this. It still makes a little bit of noise when you dial up the treble boost over the three quarters, but then I’d expect some of that sound to come through and tbh I can live with it. Now I can experience the bass in all its tonal glory. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Just a note... whenever you crank the treble on a preamp, you are always going to get a little noise. That's not a design flaw, just the nature of cranking treble on a preamp.
