Club Sadowsky!!!

I’ve been a Sadowsky guy for 12+ years. Still am! I’ve owned six NYC 4 strings and two 5 strings (one NYC, the other a Japanese Metroline). All amazing basses.

I’ve tried Dingwall, Musicman and Spectors during this time and never bonded with any of them.

I recently bought a Lakland 55-02 Custom (Indonesia) and I have to say it is an awesome bass. Neck is fantastic, frets are great and the pickups sound real good. The Lakland is the only other bass I bonded with.

So, now I have a Sadowsky 4 and a Lakland 5 and I am very happy with both.

I'd love to find a Sadowsky that is a keeper. I've owned many but have yet to find one I like as well as my Foderas or Fender Elite 5's. I like the playability better on the Sadowsky than the Fender but none that I've owned had the tone I prefer. I'm trying to change that now but have yet to get a response from Roger. I want to order an NYC MV5-24 with a non-chambered body but none of my 3 emails have been replied to. I think the issue I've had with all my prior Sadowsky's is the light weight. I found them all to be uncomfortable on a strap and the tone not to be to my liking which I've attributed to the chambering. My ideal weight is around 9-9.5lbs. Hopefully Roger will get back to me and I can place an order.

Are you saying the tone in your head is your Fender, but you want Sadowsky class playability? No offense to Roger, but maybe the best solution is just to have someone at Roger's level do some serious work on it to get it there. You'd be guaranteed to spend less than buying yet another very expensive instrument that, quite frankly, probably still won't be the tone in your head, because it's specifically designed to be a little different. Instrument selection is a VERY personal and individual thing. There is no one brand that works the best for everyone.

Just my .02.

It doesn't have to sound like my Fender but 8n the ball park would be nice. Plus, I want 24 frets which isn't a thing with Fender. I don't have to buy a Sadowsky, I'm perfectly happy with my Fenders, which also play great, and my Fodera's are incredible. I just like Roger and would like one his instruments.

Ever play an NYC with the Brazilian rosewood FB?
I got my 5-24 NYC in 2013. After playing many different Fb/Body combos at the shop side-by-side, NYCs and Metros back to back, the NYC with the Brazilian rosewood Fb /alder body was by far the best sounding bass for that original early 60s fender jazz tone. Probably as close as it gets without getting a pre cbs Jazz bass.
I ended up getting alder with roasted maple neck and Brazilian rosewood. The depth and response is unparalleled and worth every penny.
that was pre-Warwick, I haven’t tried any German basses yet but am looking forward to it. They look incredible and I bet they play wonderfully. Soon I’m going to go to the shop and try out everything he has.
You could also try calling the shop you’ll most likely get Roger on the phone. Old school.
And by the way no one’s paying me to say this, I’m gonna be buried with my NYC 5-24!

Filled out the online form 2 weeks ago and haven't heard back either; shop is slow at the moment for some reason. Not my biggest problem by any stretch, just want to confirm my new toy is in the queue.

EDIT: I literally just got an email from Roger; things are backed up due to him performing a lot more work since COVID, so patience is requested.

Yes, custom ordered it that way in memory of my older brother who died too young. Red… His favorite color.

JK, Still not use to seeing you with a 5 in your hands when you put up your gig pics!

My Japanese metro RV5 is an incredible instrument that I'm still learning how to get the best tone out of it even after 4 years. Playing a stingray for 20 years turned me into quite the digger for the snarls. With the RV5 the more subtle I play the more amazing tones come out.

I recently snagged a Japanese UV70 4 string that I haven't bonded with and not sure that its going to happen. The UV70 is a little too laid back for me.
