Thanks for all the responses! I should clarify that the b-string issue on the Lakland was the string itself. It was incredibly buzzy without even pressing down a fret, so it wasn’t the action. I changed the string and it went away. It was just the factory Lakland string that came on the bass.
The fretwork on the edges are very sharp and need to be filed down. I didn’t even notice it at first, but now it’s all I feel. The action and set up on it are fine and no buzzing, I’m just surprised that a $3100 US made instrument was able to leave the factory with out checking that.
The 55-14 is just as good as the 55-94’s, just don’t have as many of the wood or color options.

Fret sprout is perfectly normal for a bass made in Chicago and then subjected to the dry climate of Colorado. You only need to have it filed down once provided you do it when the humidity is at its lowest. I'm sure it didn't leave the factory that way.

I assume he's busy. I sent a couple emails over the past couple of months and never got a response. He's usually really good about getting back. Still the best I've dealt with.

Apologies.....I got caught up last night with all but the two most recent submissions. With the smaller crew, all the emails fall on me and I sometimes get behind. I am always available by phone between 2-4 PM Eastern time as well.

I had my tech install a new jack and since getting my bass back my battery has been draining as if the bass is constantly plugged in. My tech is away on vacation right now but in the meantime, does anything here look off to those of you familiar with the drop-in Sadowsky preamp wiring?

The jack should have heat shrink (not shrunk tight) or electrical tape surrounding it. The prongs are probably touching the shielding paint.

I was just wondering if anyone has any A/B audio or video clips of an M5-24 with stock pickups vs. Nordy Big Splits.

I've looked all over and any clips that used to be available have since been taken down or disappeared.

I'm definitely more of a traditional guy, but I'm learning to love my M5-24 tone more and more - just looking to hear some options.

A/B comparison would be ideal - but even just a demo of the Nordy pup's alone would be nice as well.

I don't have any sound clips but I did the pickup swap back when I only had few basses and want more tonal options if needed.

Stock soapbar is simply like what we normally hear from a Sadowsky with soapbar, nice low, pointy mid and zing high, the pickup got strong character, still works on many musical situations.

While if you put any kind of coil typs of pickups no matter humcanel or not, the tone will become more flat, more organic and something like bridge pickup flavored J bass.

I can only describe the tone like that..
