I've got a "problem". After changing strings, adjusting the action and setting the pickup height to factory spec (.125" underneath the B string, .094" underneath the G string), I'm experiencing a rather unbalanced sound on my Modern 5-string. Both the G and D string are louder than the rest of the strings. Additionally, the E and B string sound a bit scooped in comparison to the other strings. Since I'm not too keen to fiddle with the pickup height without any pointers, I'd like to ask for some help!

You can either: lower the treble side of your pickups slightly to see if that helps OR raise the bass side slightly to see if that cures the hollowness and balances out the Volume.
Wow, maybe I had linked this one's advert from Reverb few weeks ago, could it be that one?
I think it should be a string problem not the PU - did you had same issue with the old set?
I used to change the PU height one side, or the other side to balance the volume diff. fine, but it helps for tiny differences only.

This is where I’d start. Could very well be a string problem but it’s super easy to adjust pickup height to see if that’s the culprit. If it’s not at least you’ve eliminated that variable.

Thanks a bunch! It wasn't the strings. I had TI flats on the bass before changing to blue label nickels and both sets suffered from the imbalanced and hollow tone. But after setting the pickup heights differently it sounds just fine. Thank you anyway for your reply!

Dear Sadowsky hive mind,
I'm having a problem again - but it's a good problem to have! I'm in the market for a second bass and, since I like pretty much everything about my Metroline Modern 5-String (even more after optimizing the pickup height recently - thanks again @deepestend ), I'm set on getting a second Sadowsky Metroline bass.
As the Modern has a very distinctive sound, I'd like something different. Obvious choice would be a jazz bass variant, but I'm also intrigued by the pj basses. I never actually played a jazz or p bass, I only ever owned a Human Base Roxy 5 string (somewhat inspired by an EBMM Stingray) and my Sadowsky Modern.
It is said that the Modern does a good approximation of a p tone when dialed towards the neck pickup and I find myself playing in this setting very often. However, I also crave a bass with a "smoother" tone. The Modern is has a pretty punchy and "immediate" sound, regardless which pickup is used. It can be somewhat tamed with softer plucking towards the neck, but it isn't quite what I hear in my head.
So, the basses that tickle my fancy are the Verdine White 5 string (can be had with alder body and morado fretboard), Will Lee 5 string (swamp ash body and maple fretboard) and the 2020 limited edition 5 string (swamp ash body, roasted maple neck and fretboard). There is also the new 2021 limited 5 string (same woods as 2021 limited Modern, but with jazz pickups), but its price makes it unattractive (~4200€ instead of 2600€ to 3100€ for the other basses). Each is available at a different shop and the shops lie 2 to 5 hour drives in different directions - testing them all side by side is not possible. Ordering them one by one is no problem, as all shops have generous return policies (ranging from 14 to 30 days).
What I'm asking are pointers as to which bass to try first and why it would be a good complement to my existing Sadowsky Modern. I understand that the Will Lee has an additional mid boost and single coil pickups, whereas the standard Sadowsky jazz basses come with humbucking pickups and the Will Lee will have a narrower nut width.
