Just finished a review on my Metroline Modern 5-24
enjoyed this. on the ken smith comparison, depends on the context of the comment. if they were comparing them in terms of they're "similar" in that each one has it's own unique identity, i'd agree. however, anyone that would say they sound similar to each other, i'd very strongly disagree. they're both really very much and in their own tone space.
Appreciate the feedback. Most of the comparisons I’ve heard have been about the focused tone but I have no first hand experience with a Smith so I definitely defer to those that do. I got some volume stuff to work out but the reviews are a stretch for me to grow. I’ll probably do one on the HPJ next.
Absolutely LOVING this bass! The neck and frets are immaculate, as well as the tight and clear B strong

I agree that prices are increasing. There are some very good deals at the moment IMO. I have a like new Metro and am still tempted by a few I have seen. Here's one in particular:Sadowsky Metroline RV4-WL Will Lee Signature Candy Apple Red, Made in Japan | Reverb
In what way are the Japan Sadowsky WL better than the Warwick/Sadowsky WL? There's only $600 difference!
I am not sure if anyone is saying they are better. I do like them better but they are also no longer being made in Japan. So the few brand new Japanese Metros are going to be gone forever soon.
I am sure some folks like the German Metros better. Most likely the Warwick fans will prefer the German Metros.
If your interested I have seen some NOS and couple of used 4 & 5 string MIJ WL Metros on a website [ NJ Guitar and Bass Center ] I'm guessing that they are still in stock if they are on the site , may be worth a call. I picked up a Lakland there a few years ago that I have replaced with a Metro, nice place.

If true, and since they aren't making anymore, this may be the time to buy one.
In general, 'quality' far east instruments are fetching good prices..

Just checked, Metro from Germany are as high as Japanese prices.
I've found Warwick quality consistently good over the years, but never a fan of the round necks or big fret wire. As for Japanese versus German Sadowskys, time is likely to point to two really different animals. I've pursued a German Sadowsky a couple of times since they were launched but thus far, it hasn't worked out. I will say, they did hit the used market pretty fast and furious so I can't ignore that. Plus, not so sure how I feel of the recent line of "Sandberdowskys" they recently rolled out. Maybe it's a Germany thing... In the meantime, I love my NYC, even though the Japanese Metroline is holding #1 status over my entire collection.
i've owned a couple smiths and i used to own a modern 5/24 (nyc)... actually at the same time. yeah, in both cases their "specialty" is that cutting midrange, but overall, they sound very different from each other. just fyi.
